Yeah, I've noticed that. I don't understand how some teams go double-digit millions into the red, but the game won't allow me to offer an extension to anyone on my team that exceeds 6 million per.

I think the red is simply at that moment, it's not against budget which includes monies that haven't come in yet.

I've given up on trying to understand the financials in this game. According to the game, I'm roughly 20 million below my current budget next season, but still can't sign anyone on my team to an extension...

I'm in the red a little bit this season, but I've been in the green for the most part throughout the league history. If Clint Lance would only suffer a torn back, we'd be in great financial shape.

I do apologize if my post seemed a little harsh... it's been a rough week of exams and sickness. It was just a little disheartening to see a team give up so quickly after one month (like 3 sims) worth of this year. You have a lot of talent mahoney, so don't pack it in so quickly. And if the worst come to worst and you're out of it by the trading deadline, I'm sure there will be teams lining up to take guys like eires.

although, i'm still wondering how your scout has a 255 year contract.

It has something to do with arbitration eligible players I believe...

But I was in the same boat as you last year.

Take some advice from an expert at getting a team into financial difficulties. Once the playoffs are over and during free agency the game will allow you to include your current cash balance in figuring the money you have available to sign players for the next season. If you have a healthy cash balance during this period and you offer long-term contracts up to or near the amount the game will allow, you'll be fine the next season since your revenue and that big cash balance will see you through. But for subsequent seasons you won't have much cash left and you too will be in budget hell.

It looks like Dallas is leading the way in that regard by signing two of the premier free agents even with the limited budget. He is in luxury tax territory despite the small budget.

I like what he has done as he has a lot of potential to increase his gate and merchandising revenue (and thus future budgets) and is already well on his way of doing that. With Corona and Molenza not far off he could be a real force in the IL for the next few years as long as he gets over the injury bug. He'll need to watch his budget closely and make moves as necessary to keep things in balance but it looks doable. Should be a fun team to operate for the next few years.

Yeah, I'm walking a fine line trying to not turn into the Yankees for a shot at winning. I do have several young guys that will be cheap for the next few years (Guzman, Melgoza, Corona & Molenza). I also have a few pretty solid guys signed pretty cheap for a few more years (Sanchez, McMonies & a couple others).

I'm really looking forward to the next 2-3 seasons. I think with 1-2 more impact pitchers we could be the team to beat in the DL.
