Ok, Sully. Lets just throw out trades, pre-sim instructions, manual drafting, the Rule V, live sims, website updates, the forums, etc.

It's much more common for the team that selected a player to work out a trade with the team that lost the player so they are allowed to send him down to the minors.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_5_draft_results

In 2007, two of the top five picks were immediately traded to other teams. In 2006, six of the top ten picks were traded immediately to other teams. In 2005, three of the top four were traded. The list goes on.

I know the BLB rule is to not add a player (via FA or Rule V) just to trade him. I don't think anyone has done that.

Sounds good to me. But what is the Rule V intention vs. how we are using it?

The intention is to give minor league veterans a shot at playing in the majors. Here it seems like some people are using the shotgun approach to drafting players with no intention of giving them that shot or keeping them. It just results in me having to shuffle a bunch of guys around for nothing.

That's usually because the good teams don't need minor leaguers to fill out their roster.

I'm sure Clay and the rest of the bottom feeders (myself included) are crushed by your recent lack of success. Winning titles, and being one of the best teams in the blb year in and year out kind of rules you out of the bad team category.

I carried two mediocre Rule V players on my roster for the whole year last year.

One of the the reasons I kept them? To give me minor league depth this season :)

Poor little fellas. They are just pawns to your machine. Here they think that they are finally gonna spend some time on a big league roster just to get dumped back into the kiddie pool. Ah well, such is life, such is life...

I'd have no problem paying for the Rule V guys. Its something thats helped my team this year. I really think keeping the guys on your roster until June or whatever makes sense as well.

The only way they should be traded is if there is a pre-draft deal worked out. This happens in MLB all the time, and I'd have no problem with it in our league.

                          Riverman--
Actually, I didn't give him a BLB contract, the game did which is not correct. If it mirrors the BLB I should be charged $50,000. At this point, I don't give a shit about the money... but please done pretend I did something I wasn't supposed to do.

Andrew - Yes, I did keep my #1 Rule 5 pick (Errol Blue) and the only other Rule 5 guy I've ever taken (Antonio O'Neill). However, I do apologize for the inconvenience... thanks for the clarification.

                          Thanks

Looking at my 4 Rule V guys, why do they get a BLB contract after the Rule V? Is it to prevent people from trying to sneak them into their minor league system without someone noticing?

Players get a BLB contract because you're essentially making them a BLB player by drafting them in the Rule 5. Can't play in the majors with a minor league contract.

I said that wrong.... I realize they get Major League contracts.... but isn't the real rule that you only get charged the 50k?
