First, no one is ever sure when a guy is coming back. Reality says that a guy is out for a time period but we don't know the exact number of days. I'd love to see this change in future OOTPs. So a guy could be out for "6-8 weeks" and that number could very well be 4 weeks or even 12 weeks. Guys get healthy faster than others. I'm for this but I understand why people would hate it. No one likes reality when it affects their players and makes things unpredictable.
The only thing about that is that it makes it tough when we are simming a week at a time, especially when people are in a pennant race.

As far as CEI, I would advocate maybe limiting them a bit more, but they are an important part of the game. Yeah, it sucks when you lose the guy, but that's life. Half the time a "Potential Drop" is pretty much a career ending injury anyways, since they are rendered pretty much useless.

Thats why I think they need to be limited. It seems like the game already simulates "career ending injuries" by sometimes making a guys ratings/potential drop so he is never the same player.

If it were up to me, I'd limit career enders to just blurred vision and skull fractures. In real life I can't think of many injuries that ended a guys career as abruptly as it does in OOTP (Tony Conigliaro is the most obvious example).

Most leg, arm, muscle, etc injuries involve some sort of comeback attempt. If they are unsuccessful they might spend their career struggling in the minors or eventually get released.

Point being, there is no way an established pitcher like Matt Hannigan's career would be over after tearing a back muscle. Maybe he'd miss the season but be fine afterwards and maybe he'd be plagued by ongoing back issues and never be the same, but he would definitely pitch again.

Agreed. Hell even Jason Kendall and Moises Alou came back from terrible leg injuries... which in-game would be CEI. See Bins, Norman. I'm all for a change, but then again I've always been for lessening the CEI's.

I'd be for limiting the CEI's as well.

I agree. But don't bring back anyone on Wilmington.

I agree. Is there any way we can update this before the start of this season so no one else loses any more players?

Finally, CEI are just silly because no one is ever out for his career right off the bat./QUOTE]

                  What about Ray Chapman?

Without searching I'm assuming that's the guy that got hit in the head and died.

                    That's just not nice.

                      You would be correct sir.

Ray Chapman is the only modern major leaguer to have died as a direct result of being hit by a pitch. At the Polo Grounds on August 16, 1920, Chapman, crowding the plate as usual, was struck in the temple by a pitch from Yankee submariner Carl Mays that barely missed the strike zone. Chapman was taken to a hospital, never regained consciousness, and died twelve hours later. Rookie Joe Sewell replaced Chapman at short, beginning a Hall of Fame career. Cleveland players wore black arm bands, and manager Tris Speaker rallied his dejected men to win the first World Championship in club history.
The popular Chapman led the Indians in stolen bases four times, setting a team record with 52 in 1917 that stood until 1980. He led the AL in runs scored and walks in 1918. He was hitting .303 with 97 runs scored when he died. It is baseball analyst Bill James's opinion that Chapman was "probably destined for the Hall of Fame had he lived."

Yes it's happened. But how many times has it happened in our universe the past 3 years?
