  • New Davenport Owner

I just want to stop by and say hello. I took over the Davenport franchise a couple of days ago. I imagine some may be disappointed at getting a new owner after the trading deadline is past. I took an expansion team in a dice baseball game league several years ago. Within minutes of the end of the expansion draft the sharks were circling.

I'll be pretty busy at work the next three weeks or so but will have a lot of time to get more involved after that. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Maybe you are too young to remember those days but it doesn't seem so long ago to me that the computer games available were pretty bad.

What I miss from those days though was the socializing. We'd get together 8 or 10 of us (no wives of course) and play a bunch of games. It was a lot of fun.

Since we kept our players from year to year it made it very interesting following baseball. Everyone just rooted for their own players; no one cared about teams very much.

This game is much more sophisticated of course and I expect it to be very interesting trying to put together a winner.

I played both of those games to death. EWBB is probably my favorite sports game of all time.

                RBI Baseball.

For some reason I was addicted to this game when I was younger.

My favorite dice game was Pursue the Pennant. I think they used three 10 sided die and maybe 45% of the plays were adjudicated on the pitchers card, 45% on the hitters card and 10% on the fielding rating of one of the defenders. I think they had cards for about 30 players for each ML team.

Pitchers and hitters were rated against both left and right handers, fielders were rated for both range and errors. Home runs could be affected by the demensions of the ball park. It was a pretty sophisticated game. One thing I liked compared to computer games you could tell when a fielder made a tough play based on his good defensive ratings while with OOTPI'm never quite sure.

Of course it was a pain to keep all of the statistics by hand but I still had alot of fun with them in the old days.

Definitely my favorite as well. I have scorebooks full of box scores at my old house. I think I still have the cards from 90-92 plus a bunch of historical teams.

Wow we have a lot of geezers around here...

                        J/k, welcome to the league.

I didn't get into the stat based games until around OOTP 4, so I'm still kinda new to this I guess. I have no idea what you guys are talking about.
