  • OOTP 8

FYI, OOTP 8 was released yesterday. This is essentially the same as OOTP 2007 but with most of the SI branding removed since OOTP Dev is no longer part of SI.

This release contains a few bug fixes, but nothing major. Supposedly it is 100% compatible with OOTP 2007 so it's up to you guys if you want to upgrade or not. There will be a coupon posted that makes it $6.99 for OOTP 2007 owners.

Look here for more info: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...d.php?t=158164

Nothing major? So, there's no reason to upgrade?

I'm going to upgrade my copy because there's a few bugfixes but i don't see any reason for you guys to upgrade.

They didn't by chance fix the free agency/re-signing bug did they?

I don't think so, but the fix list is a little shaky at this point. We're not really sure what they fixed.

I know they fixed a waivers bug though which will hopefully solve the problem of guys not getting moved when they clear.

One thing they said they did fix is that in the 2007 game certain players over-value themselves in contract negotiations. This means that teams that upgrade may have an advantage since teams without the upgrade when resigning players may be told that the player is seeking a higher salary amount than he actually will be when the sim takes place in the 2008 version.

That could be a pretty big deal, especially at this point in the season. I'm just hoping the Mac version comes out before our season ends so I can look at resigning some guys that I currently think are asking a bit out of their price range.

              Edit:
Here's the fix list according to page 11 of that thread:
*Players claimed off waivers in online leagues are now placed in DFA, not the active roster
*Players from deleted feeder leagues no longer show up in the draft pool
*expansion protection lists for online leagues now included in exports
*rare crashes tied into coaching model resolved
*fixed some contract negotiation issues where players over-valued themselves
              *improved double-switch AI

Well if it makes those fixes, I'll probably pick it up seeing it will only cost me $7.

Once Andrew upgrades you can still try a low offer relative to what they are asking. I guess if one of your players are affected by this bug it won't be a problem with the sim being run on the upgraded version. The only trouble is you won't really know for sure and I think players may get inulted if they feel they are being low-balled. I am not sure if this affects further negotiations with them or not.

After what the switch to 2007 did for certain players in the league, I'm a little hesitant to jump into OOTP 8.

All of the processing of offers will be done with the Commish's version anyway. The only thing each owner will have control is the offer, the response will come from the Commish's export. I don't see it as an issue.

The issue all along has been the extra information GMs with the new version will have over their less-well-infomred rivals. No one has suggested the edge would carry over to the acrtual processing of the offers.

I guess my confusion is where the extra info would be presented in one version over the other. I assume that the players would respond to the offers according to the "new" AI in OOTP8 and those using OOTP 2007 would only get the response based on the OOTP 8 AI. Am I overthinking it?

EDIT: BTW, I am not just trying to argue, I am actually now unsure if I should upgrade for my other league or if that would create an unfair situation...

I think the issue, if I understand it correctly, is that GM's with the new version would see a more accurate demand from the start, and could therefore begin with a more accurate/reasonable offer, whereas GM's without the new version would have to guess what the demand should be and make an offer based on that. Guessing could lead to submitting an offer that was higher or lower than it should be, but you wouldn't know that until you got feedback from the player.
