BLB Debut Thread - 1982 Edition

A day late, but the long awaited debut of HrfdW Castro has come out. He was just merely backing up his first week, but this is the week he breaks out to become the starter. No timetable on how long he'll stay up, we'll see how he responds to the big league pitchers. And no, I'll never change his name.

Steve Boyd a top 60 prospect will make his debut this week at 1B for the Wildfire.

He's tore up all three levels he's been in this year.



Also Nacho Misol will make his debut as well after showing a great eye throughout the year as well as two increases in potential already this year. He'll take over as the starter at 2B against right handed pitchers.

Joe has been on and off the BA Top 100 prospect list this year, usually in the 80-90 range. His history is pretty uncommon. He was a random FA signing for the Bats organization in 1979, didn't really get to pitch until 1980, and wasn't even a full-time SP until 1981. But since then his numbers have been great, and the injury to one of my starters, he deserves a shot.

George was a former backup on Philadelphia's Triple-A squad. The Bats organization saw something in him, and signed him right away to a minor league deal. In 1981 he was a Double-A All-Star, and won the AA championship. This year, he is a Triple-A All-Star, and is arguably one of the best hitters in AAA this season. My scouts have never been super high on him, but the numbers don't lie, this guy can hit. With the injury to Mark MacAdie for the year, I need another infielder who can hit. Lets see if he can do it.

I need a #5 starter with Tessai MacArthur still on the DL, and after Joe Rodriguez failed in two starts, I am looking in another direction. Neilly, like Schooley, was signed as a FA in 1980. After two stints in Double-A, Neilly has been on the Triple-A club for the past year and a half. He currently boasts a 2.99 ERA, with over a strikeout per inning. In his last start he went 8 innings, no hits, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts.

Hopefully one of these Georges...stick.

Following up....

George Schooley struggled in his debut. He went 4-19 with a double. But, he did have five starts at SS, with no errors, so thats a plus. I will probably give him two more sims as a starter to see if he can get better, if not he will just sit on the bech.

George Neilly on the other hand was phenominal. In his debut he went six innings of two hit ball, no runs, five Ks, no walks, in a 4-1 win over California. He followed that up with a 5.1 inning, two ER, nine Ks, two walks, no decision.

Looking toward Sunday's sim there will be 2 possible debuts for the Bandits:

David Tardif will make his debut on 9/7 against Carolina. This 18y/o righty has opened some eyes recently in the Los Alamos organization. He was the first overall selection in the 1981 Amateur Draft and started this year in A ball where he started 5 games resulting in a 3-0 record with a 2.08 ERA. Making the move up to AA he proceeded to start 23 games going 9-4 with a 2.07 ERA. He struck out an impressive 165 batters in just 126 innings. After making just 2 starts at the AAA level (1-0 2.19, 13K's/12.1 IP) "Hotwire" is set to make his BLB debut. Stay tuned...



Nineteen year old Catcher Oliver Rowell will probably see a few AB's this week, benefiting from the September expansion. He has seen action at the A level and made the jump to AAA. His offensive numbers have been very good at both levels of the minors (A-ball: 144 games .347 AVG 12HR's 73RBI's)(AAA: 88 games .337 AVG 13 HR's 56 RBI's) and while he may not see much time behind the plate this stint, he certainly looks like the backstop of the future for the Bandits. Wow, it looks like you may me the next candidate to make a run at Windy City for the division title. If Tardiff continues to develop as quickly as he has next season could be your year. A lot of GMs might be tempted to play Rowell in RF where he is actually rated, rather than have him fight for playing time behind Windley though.

Your team has played pretty well this season after the slow start.

Tardif has been amazing in the minors, he should be a good one in the BLB. I just hope his first start is a rough one.

To update my rookie pitcher Soriano, he's 7-3, with a 2.76 ERA, 1.12 WHIP. Very solid start for him. Just pitched a complete game shutout against Windy City.
