With the 1st overall selection in the 1982 draft, the Mississippi Storm take 16 year old right-handed starting pitcher, Don Stevens out of Cleveland, Ohio.

Now it's time to watch his development, because it damn well won't be too much fun watch my 1-6 team on the field. At least I'm not in last place right now.

Indy is on the clock :)

I didn't see that coming either! But I think Stevens can be just as good if not better than Gonzalez.

Few reasons I went with Stevens

          A) He's 16, that's outrageous for a player of his caliber
          B) My scouts think he's closer to the bigs somehow than Gonzalez
          C) He's gonna be an innings eater too, with elite endurance
          D) His control potential was consistently at 8 from all my scouts

This move will be second-guessed to eternity if Gonzalez turns out to be a stud but that's the beauty of baseball. I'm happy to have shaken up things, I like controversy!

I like Stevens over Gonzalez also. I had them close... but Stevens was over the top for two reasons... he'll give you more innings and he's a Lefties.

Stevens is a righty, though he bats left handed. I had Gonzalez over Stevens by a little bit, but it was close. Stevens' endurance was a clear edge that he has.

Hehe... I had Don Rice and Don Steven right next to eachother on my list and incorrectly saw Rice's handedness (left) for Stevens.

and we are on to pick 4! 3 pitchers to start the draft... wouldn't be surprised to see them all be stars one day in the BLB!

I'm happy to get Gonzalez, but my only concern was his endurance. Still, hopefully he'll develope into a stud. Should be interesting to track his progress.

I agree.. the guy is a complete stud and you don't have to play the waiting game as he's already 20.
