And you can just keep DFA'g and selecting "pull back" every 3 SIMs. You could have 50 guys easily in your A and DFA.

I signed 24 UDFAs this season and paid a signing bonus to 19 of them totally $2M. Of the players I offered just minor league deals without the bonus, I missed out on much more than I signed. If you take a look around the league, there is only a handful of teams that aren't currently over budget. There are a few advantages to entering the season with budget room and I've tried to take advantage of all of them during this rebuilding season:
1.) Signing minor leaguers (that become available via release, not being offered a minor league extension or UDFA) to contracts with a bonus. The BLB is very active week to week with people monitoring the transaction log and seeing who is available and when. I'm actually new to the idea of "minor league bonuses" as I think I made my first one in 2019. I picked up on this from a few other savvy GMs that would beat teams out for the top minor league free-agents by offering a small financial bonus. This UDFA season there was actually five players when I went to offer were actually ASKING for a $230k bonus. I figured that might have been a slight "tell" that they are talented and I offered all of those that I liked $250K. I then signed another 14 players to deals in the $1,000-$50,000 range depending on there potential. Of the 24 I signed, probably only half will make the ORG but you never know who are going to sign with you or not.
2.) Being able to make waiver claims for players under BLB contracts. Something I always hated during most of my DC years and 1st season in Seattle was not being able to claim a good player who was making only $280k because I was over budget. Throughout the season there is always a decent amount of talent that goes on waivers for whatever reason. This season, I claimed Dallas OF Tom Clark, who was making $280k. I think I had the #1 or #2 worst record so I knew I had priority on the claim. He's not going to be an All-Star but according to "Meet The Team" he's actually my 3rd best player on the roster.
3.) Making a salary dump trade. Take a look at the "Worst Values" thread I just posted. I bet half of those players GMs would be willing to send a decent draft pick to get that contract off their books. This season, I landed a 1st from LAM in a package deal that sent IF Garnett and his two-year $54M deal to Seattle. I don't think this was an aberration. It seems there is usually 1-2 type of salary dump deals per season and normally can only be done by teams that enter the season with a lot of budget room.

Bad teams always go nut on waivers and udfa. They have to.
Pat has a long history of going after free agent minor leaguers, but I think this is a bit different this time.
I do think if anyone is holding too many players in DFA, it's an issue. But I'm not sure how much of an issue it actually is. No one good is sitting in it because that would be stupid.Denver Bulls

My current file has Seattle with 40 players in Single-A, which means I have to cut or promote 10 players by Friday's sim. I also have 6 players with BLB contracts on DFA, but all are currently on irrevocable waivers, all for the first time this season. And I haven't "pulled back" a single player I have waived all season as every single player I have waived was with the intention/hope that someone would take the salary off the books.
