Shocking... Another 3-3 sim in California, where Mike Morla has turned into a complete shell of the beast he has been the last two years. He has two RBI in his last 18 games, yet somehow we are still hovering close to 0.500. I'm not sure that we can play worse in tight situations, yet, perhaps that is the silver lining. At some point this should turn the corner, or go right in the shitter!

A 5-1 week is something we really needed. Finally got some signs of life from the offense, so hopefully our misery at the plate is coming to an end. I'm not expecting wonders, but I think we should be average at the plate.

Outside of a rough outing for Ron Robertson, my pitchers are still doing their thing. Ed Carroll had two more good starts and won IL Pitcher of the Month. He leads all BLB players in WAR so far this year, with a pretty absurd 1.45 FIP. Dave Koehler is doing well in his rookie year, he had another solid start.

In the minors, a new Bat has cracked the top 100 list. Tom "Dinosaur" Hillebrand is #100. I can't say I expected that.

Baltimore Bulldogs (28-18; 6.5 GB in the Stout, +4 GA in IL WC)

          2-1 at SEA
          2-1 vs DEN

          The Week in Review

4-2 and that brings us to 28-21, good for third in the Stout. The most surprising part of this current success is our play away from home. We are only .500 in Phillips Field, 16-9 on the road. This is the first time in a while that we've been a significantly bette road team and I can only hope to see more of the same as the season grinds on.

-SP Jimmy Cooper threw 8.1 shutout innings this week in route to a convincing 7-0 shut out of the Pilots. Pilots or not, it is nice to see Jimmy get in a groove because he can be a tough guy to hit against when he's got his stuff going. He looks like he may be be putting all of it together, but you never know with this guy.

-Lately we've gotten a lot of strong play from our platoon guys like IF J.J. Carver, SS Tom Perry, and OF Geoff "Rocket" Dicks. Carver has hit over .400 during the month of May vs. LHP, Perry has lead the team vs LHP in May with 5 walks, 4 home runs and 10 RBI, while Geoff Dicks has .917 OPS during the same span. These guys are making it tough to trot out LHP against the us.

-Despite getting roughed up a bit by the Pilots in our only loss of the series, SP Alex Dominguez is still looking like a #1, and is on the Top Pitchers' List at #17. So far, he and CL Edwin Carrasco are still looking good and we are competitive which was our main goal after signing the two.

Despite some decent play, we still aren't gaining any ground on the Muckdogs. Offensively, the Muckdogs are a juggernaut so when we meet them over the next couple of weeks, we have to hope that we can capitalize on their recent injuries and play as a "a sum greater than its parts" kind of team.

4-2 to get back to .500. This reminds me of last season.

I wonder how long until Tom Pelloni joins the Top 20. He has helped us climb to 6th in Organizational Shortstop Rankings and is killing the baseball. League leading 16 doubles, along with 2 tripes and a .317 / .358 / .489 split. His 2.1 WAR only trails Gray and Yonke in the IL.

In A Ball, Robby Yantis, who I drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 draft, is currently batting .426 in 108 at-bats. Really liked him out of Oregon. Hoping he can continue to develop and improve. OSA sees him as a potential 56457 that needs to work on his defense.

Ian Jones, who we took in the 5th round of the 2018 draft (go 5th round) just went for the cycle. He's got better defensive potential and though my scout likes him more than OSA, the league still sees him as a 55356 hitter which I'll take.

In the BLB level, the mostly lefty rotation is doing well for us. Nate Pitchford is back from injury and getting rehab in AAA so someone should feel threatened. Luckily for TJ, he came back around with a solid performance. Liking the returns from CJ Johnson. Gotschall is a rookie but handling it well enough. I've learned to always trust Jimmy Lewis. Now if Tom Reed can just settle down for a full season.

2016 9th Round Pick OF Tom Martin got the call-up and proceeded to hit a homerun in his first at-bat, a pinch hit one that provided our only runs in a loss to Carolina.

I didn't see last night that Tom Roseboom won IL Rookie of the Month. I didn't think he was that great, but he's starting to do better after a slow start. Not sure he was the best rookie on my team in May, but I'll happily take the award. Hopefully it'll help us gain some popularity, which took another hit as Lippert was signed this sim. I guess some of my fans were still holding out hope that he was coming back and are now no longer interested in watching us.

In AA, Dave Smith won Pitcher of the Month. The 6th round pick from 2015 is slowly but surely making his way through the system. He's the #95 prospect in the league now.

Really tough sim coming up, @ Windy City and @ Batavia. I'm just hoping for 3-3, or no worse than 2-4. Can't expect any better than that.

Not to rain on your parade but these last few weeks before rookies are entered are when you see the "unusual Top 100 guys" make appearances.

With that said, I actually like "Dinosaur" and think he fits your scheme/park well. Should be one of those DC pitchers who pitch better than their ratings.

Oh, it's definitely the easiest time to crack the list- new callups are falling off and the drat hasn't entered. But, Dinosaur was a UDFA who survived a few cuts because I liked the nickname. Seeing him become a BLB quality pitcher is a fun surprise for me, even if he's unlikely to stay in the Top 100 for very long - 2 more sims, most likely.

I've got 3 players ranked from 91-100 right now. Going to give them a shout out while I can. For the right price, it's a great opportunity for someone to acquire a top 100 prospect!

I wish Pat said something like once the draft results asteroid hits that Dinosaur would be wiped out.

                              Well it finally happened.

Jamie O'Hearn will miss the next 6-7 weeks because of a hit by pitch. How do you replace the most dynamic player in the game? Creativity, that's how....I think.

We've called up two players to try and replace some of the production from one.

The first is Dave Zimmer makes his return to the BLB after going through the motions at AAA. He's ready to offer the speed threat that O'Hearn had, and hopefully can play a little bit better in CF that he was in AAA.

The second according move, much to my angst, is calling up 20 year old Joey York from AAA Allentown. York becomes the second player in my tenure to receive a call up prior to being able to drink, joining.....Jamie O'Hearn.

I'm not sure it will work out, but my scout has him at 6/6/6/(4/5)/6. And after a sim he was on the top players list for AAA hitters, as the youngest to reach that list.

The numbers he's produced this season, and last really, are insane.

                              2020 Harrisburg - AA .370/.429/.600/1.029
                              2020 Allentown - AAA .400/.452/.720/1.172,

In 44 games he's hit 10 HR, driven in 40 runs, and went from no expectation to playing in the majors.

After using the cool "sample lineup" feature, my manager suggest that he bat third in our BLB lineup!!!! (That won't be the case, yet)

This kid has a chance to be really special. And damnit, without JO, we're gonna need it.
