So as expected, everyone i would've selected is gone. I have a guy that might be a stretch to pick at this point so, I'll take a few minutes to field offers for 1.5.

At the time of the trade I wasn't even 100% sure who I would take. I strongly considered three prospects for 1.6 and was prepared to to just take whichever fell to me at the spot. But after Stokes went off the board, I felt Bernardi was the last "ace" level prospect available in the draft so we moved up two spots to nab him. In a deep draft that 3.23 will probably be a good player but I think Bernardi is worth it.
I liked Bernardi a lot. MacDonough, DeGennaro, Stokes and Bernardi were the clear top 4 in my opinion. Good move trading up to get him.

There are two other position players I really like and I might end up kicking myself but the lack of pitching in this draft made me feel like I could address that side of the ball later with my surplus of picks.

A few things I really liked about Bernardi besides the obvious:

-His stature: 6'5 and 210 lbs. Stokes is 5'9 170 and DeGennaro is 5'10 175. I don't know how much this comes into play as far as performance and injuries, but it's something.

-He's "durable": DeGennaro and one of the hitters I like have already had significant injuries. "Durable" from a prospect is more rare these days and Bernardi looks to have longevity.

-His batting potential: My scout might be wrong but at the last minute I noticed my scout have him 5-5-5-5-5 potential. If he's right, that goes a long way in the IL.

-His # of pitches: I'm newly into this but my scout has Bernardi with four 6+ pitches.

-His stamina: I probably would have still taken Stokes here but the stamina concerned me. Bernardi is slightly better by OSA and my scout.

-A consensus: I think he might be the only player in the entire draft that I have noticed my scout and OSA have him the same in potential ratings: 7-5-6.

When in doubt... Go with the nickname. Ironically I have a friend in Hawaii who has that same nickname.

Also, Bernardi is probably good enough to start in AAA.

Yeah, he currently ranks as the #2 pitcher in NCAA.

I'll probably still give him a few starts in Single-A and Double-A, as per tradition.

Once Baltimore picks I believe could really pick up pace with Hartford, Denver and Carolina all currently on the forums. Then it is LAD. Can someone reach out to Nemesis? I know he hasn't slept and is covered in baby poop but I'd hate to see a new GM get his first round pick auto'd.

                A tradition, unlike any other...

                      • And with the 5th pick of the 2020 draft, the Bulldogs select:

CF Colin Whaley, from Carnegie High School.

OSA loves him more than my scout based purely on ratings, but the kid is projected to be a 5-tool player. He's a pretty smart kid, always plays to win, and durable. He can play pretty much anywhere on the field but is already pegged to be the future starting CF for years to come in Baltimore.

After looking around the draft, I feel pretty good about getting Colin at this point.

                        • Ughhh... I've been watching Whaley for a while now in game. I really, really wanted to move up to get him.

                          And now he's in Baltimore.

I thought so too. I lump all those OSFL guys together as one.

                            Kidding, guys!

Nice pick. I think he could be really special. When the draft class was first announced, I actually thought Whaley had a chance to go #1. If he lives up to the OSA potentials, he could end up a 5-tool CF as you said, but also as a SS! Stats, durability, intangibles, rankings, etc. He's really got it all. I went back and forth with him and Bernardi for #4.

I was hesitant to pick him for two reasons however:

1.) I'm really not sure what to make of this new OOTP ranking of CFs. If you look at every level, BLB, CCBL, NCAA, HS, there are multiple CF prospects in the Top 15 that can field and run, but not necessarily hit all that well. That worries me some. Whaley is the #1 prospect in HS, but if we were on OOTP16, where would he rank? Is he considered an elite prospect just because of his defense/speed?

2.) My scout has soured on his bat twice in recent reports since January. I trust OSA more than my scout the past few years, but I did spend a lot on amateur scouting this season for maybe the first time ever and my scout is LEGENDARY at scouting prospects. My scout still thinks he will be a great player but that worried me.

I feel like Whaley was probably the most boom/bust prospect in the Top 10 and not just because he is a high schooler. I know a lot of teams loved him. I think he definitely has a chance to be the best player from this draft.
