    (it's already been spoiled...)

Baltimore Bulldogs: Signed free agent SP Alex Dominguez to a 8-year contract worth a total of $212,560,000.
Baltimore Bulldogs: Signed free agent RP Edwin Carrasco to a 5-year contract worth a total of $58,400,000.

What a bummer... The Pilots offered Dominguez 8-years $213,000,000 but the last year was a team option and Carrasco 5-years $62,000,000 also the last year a team option. An ironic twist of fate that the use of team options backfired for me this time around. If it was purely based on money, if I had guaranteed those seasons or made them player options, both are likely playing in Seattle and not Baltimore. Cheers to you Delandis.

I was especially high on Carrasco. I think he's really a great get: 8-6-6, 97 MPH, 59% GB, durable, lefty, good at holding runners. He will be one of the top closers in baseball and at roughly $11M per year, that's a fair price in the BLB today. After submitting the offer he was the one guy I had 2nd thoughts about just breaking the bank and giving him 5-years $75M instead. I think he's probably worth that much.

I liked Dominguez a lot obviously, he currently ranks as the #2 prospect in the BLB by the way, but I was a bit hesitant of paying a guy a $30M salary for eight years without any track record. His "5" stamina gave me a bit of pause as he is a strikeout pitcher and we often see those pitchers rarely hit 200 innings. And if you are paying a guy $30M for 180 IP, that's not the best value, unless he's a 6+ WAR guy. Don't want it to sound like sour grapes as I definitely wanted him to pitch in Seattle but I was more worried about him than Carrasco.

Either way, well done Delandis. Baltimore has been down the past two seasons and with these moves (along with Lara and Filar) I think Baltimore is right back into the thick of things for IL contenders. Long live the lefty!

Pittsburgh Millers: Signed free agent LF Danny Garcia to a 8-year contract worth a total of $86,000,000

I didn't have enough money to offer Garcia with the other two pitchers taking up majority of my potential funds but he was my backup plan for FA SIM #2 if they signed elsewhere. I think this is a really good get for the Millers. His defense leaves a lot to be desired but he has impact potential with that bat. He debuts at #7 on the top prospect list!

Seattle Pilots: Signed free agent CL Tom Wood to a 4-year contract worth a total of $20,000,000.
Seattle Pilots: Signed free agent SP Liam Kincaid to a 1-year contract worth a total of $1,000,000.

Yay.... I overpaid for Wood but we are desperate for bullpen help and he's probably our closer for four seasons at $20M? Not bad. Kincaid doesn't fill a need as a we are deep with backend SP types but I just really like this guy. Top notch movement, 73% GB, great intangibles and high stamina. Struggles with control but I think he's a bargain.

      Nice post, Pat.

Agreed with most everything you said. I really wanted Carrasco, and I'm pretty sure I offered about 5 years, 55 million or something like that. So right in the ballpark with where he signed. I've got a closer, but a lefty like him would complete my bullpen nicely.

I mentioned I wanted Garcia as well, and offered something like $60M/5 years for him - don't have the game in front of me to double check. Slight concerns about his defense and perhaps his ability to fully develop to his potential given that he'll be 26 early in the season, but I like him a lot.

As usual, I got excited about the possibilities of free agency only to miss out on my targets. Looks like it's back to the drawing board. I did sign international 2B Wook-jin Lee to a small deal. If I move Wayman, he's got a chance to see some playing time here.

Wow man... What salaries out there.... Amazing 1st SIM, if you were thinking in waiting for the demands to go down, you lost you opportunity already.

Thanks. Lee was another guy I liked but narrowed my offers in FA SIM #1 to the big fish mainly. I think he is a nice complementary piece. Definitely would have received an offer from me if he was still available.

I also really like Kansas City's signing of SP Paliotta. Not an ace by any stretch but like the Stidham signing last year, just a quality mid-rotation guy for a good price.

It will be interesting to see what teams do now that the Top 3 internationals are gone. I know a lot of teams were interested as they were in their mid-20s...but will those same teams be interested in guys in their 30's?

Now is also a good time to look ahead and start working on extensions. Some of the guys you thought you could re-sign affordably might not be so inexpensive anymore.

Intl almost always go first pass. I can't even remember when one has gone beyond the first FA signing.

Little note for the new owners.

They always get paid a lot more than they initially ask for, so they sign pretty much right away.

Not sure what Shark means about demands going down...

The star pitcher asked for $6 million a year.

He signed for $20 million a year.

His demand was never going down.

Not that I was in the running for anything, but if we only simmed 2 or 3 days at a time during the offseason, would teams be able to counter offers more?
Not sure the commissioners would want to sim every day (at 3 days-per sim), but I wonder if that would have any benefits for GM's who are locked in a bidding war.

Based on what Rowles is asking me for, I can scarcely imagine what O'Hearn wants.

Is it official that we can sign guys after their 2nd-arbitration?
                        If so, sa-weet.

I think a week at a time would be more appropriate. I think it was mentioned but nothing ever came of it.

Ji-an Zhao took a little while to sign last year.

Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm just blown away re: Dominguez. I offered 7/96 and probably wouldn't have went higher than 7/120.

It's a hell of a lot less than what I wanted to give him last year! About 130 million less actually

$20m is asking price for Superstar players.

As long as people don't overpay in FA signing a star player should cost between $20-$25m a year.
