I doubt that the underlying ratings (the 1-250 scale you would see if you went into the player editor) changed at all. I'm guessing that 17 just changed the way that scouts view players slightly, adjusting them to the talent level in the league or something along those lines. Also some tweaks to whatever formulas it uses to rank prospects and other lists.

Most of the guys in my system are really similarly rated to where they were before. A rating or two changed by a point, but nothing too drastic. The players I liked before are still the same as the ones I like now.

One thing I'm wondering is whether the players are different in 17 and that's why they're seen different or if the scouting is just different. In other words, these players are really just sets of numbers in a database. Did those numbers change, did the database change, or did the filters between us and the numbers (scouting) change but the players themselves stay the same and the players will still perform the same even though they're rated differently now?
In my experience with conversions, it's just a new presentation layer. The data behind the scenes stays intact. There's no recalibration that takes place during the conversion.

I think in past versions there were actual conversion changes because OOTP frequently changed the ratings systems in between versions.

For example, the "avoid K's" and "gap power" ratings are relatively recent inventions.

At first I was thinking that it was just a tweak in the scouting, but the more I think about it the less it would surprise me to find out that there are actual ratings changes. LC is correct in saying that nothing is too drastic, but some things had to be changed at least a little. They added the ability for a pitcher to be put in during a high leverage situation, so it would make sense that they'd add a rating for how players react in high leverage situations. That rating might have been there as a closing rating or something similar, or maybe it's disregarded altogether and their normal ratings are applied whether it's the start of the 3rd inning or they come in with 2 outs and bases loaded in the 8th with a tie score. I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that they added a new rating or tweaked an existing one that's hidden from us. Along those same lines it would make sense that the entire database would need periodic upgrading, which would cause tweaks throughout each player. It also makes sense that they're just tweaking the scouting algorithms.

I'm not disagreeing with what the more experienced people are saying, just voicing what runs through my head when I see these things. Figure it's better than everybody being silent until Saturday. :)

I assumed High Leverage doesn't require a rating.

It just means the game is coded to understand what high leverage vs. normal vs. low is. And then it looks to see if we have selected a reliever to be in one of those situations.

How that reliever reacts to the situation is based on their regular ratings. But maybe there's more to it. Could be a hidden rating. Not like it'd be the first time.
