Can they just sign Trumbo back already? Come on it's a match made in heaven

It was long ago, but I certainly tanked in 1991, but it wasn't much fun the next couple season losing so many games. It's only so much fun to look at minor league stats for guys who are years away. For as much fun as I had stockpiling prospects back then, it's more fun to have a competitive team in the BLB. Even during my down years, I think I made a few moves to try to be at least somewhat competitive, though it didn't always work out.

In current times, I'm looking forward to the next sim. Hopefully top prospects Roseboom and Thompson can add a little something to us. Both have a real chance to make the playoff roster if they do as well as I hope (and we make it in).

Can't wait to give $60 million to a two-win player who we got for a fucking backup catcher. Not like Machado needs an extension or anything.

It's certainly more fun even now trying to grab the wild card. Toiling in obscurity blows!

Running Pittsburgh from like '78-'81 suckeddddddddd. All of my best players (who weren't that great sans Joe Reyes) were 35+ and my farm system was horrible. Was fortunate to trade for Gremades and have a few draft picks hit, but my god those first few years were bad.

You and I were in the same boat at the beginning.

In hindsight it's a miracle we survived with an automated inaugural draft.

Oh no, it's gonna happen. Duquette can't help himself.

Tanking teams get another source of good players basically for free because they're tanking.

Your assertion that tanking and bringing back Rule V hurts tanking teams is confusing to me. Rule V simply provides first shot at "free" players to bad record teams simply because the Rule 5 drafting team is bad.

In the past I've been as anti-tanking as anyone around here (though I admittedly don't care about many rules arguments anymore) but Rule 5 is not really even a partial solution to that issue.

Tanking has proven a viable (and popular) strategy in the BLB. I think it's here to stay and don't mind anymore. If I had any patience I'd do it. I even began to try last season.
I'm sorry UMD, but the loss of Rule 5 has been a blow to this league.

I've watched more than a few talented guys wallow in AAA hell for years that would have helped out teams and personally, I hate seeing that. I understand the frustration part of why we removed it, but to me losing it was just one more way to restrict player movement. Rule 5 wasn't really that different than picking up a minor leaguer from FA because someone else had too many good players in minors so they had to cut them.

I'm good with the change. It has cut down on drama and sped up the off-season, but it wasn't a positive change for the fun of the league for me.

I agree that it hurt the "fun factor" but I think the rule change was necessary. Too much drama.

We've had this discussion forever. If a player is that good and wallowing in AAA why doesn't anyone trade for them? They can't be that good then. If they could really help your team and they are dead weight in someone else's organization you could probably make a solid offer and acquire them... right? Giving free players to many (intentionally) bad teams restricts player movement only when those teams don't want to trade for those AAA type players. They'd rather get something for nothing than give up an asset.

Listening to all 3 of you just wondering "if" the rule was players 26 or older could this still have worked??

I do agree with UMD that in no way shape or form a top 100 should be left unprotected especially with only 3 minor league levels.

Pawtucket made a small living with Rule 5 especially with it came to mid bullpen/ 5th OF help.
