We should bring back the Rule V then, let's penalise the teams that are tanking for several seasons intentionally.

That's the worst part... We've actually been trying to win in California... It just looks like we've been tanking.

I LOVED rule V! Too many "gotchas" and drama though.

Overall, were actually like the real world today. I can even argue less % of teams in the BLB are tanking versus the MLB. That's good right?

It's to bad there isn't a setting for Rule V for players only 26 and older or Id be the first to vote it back in.

I deeply disliked losing a 22 year with say a 6-5-5 POT pitcher with actual ratings of 4-4-3 getting picked. It's unrealistic a kid like that would get picked in the real world.

Which you'd think might work on the opposite direction since you've got a higher probability of hitting an all star in the first of the BLB than MLB teams seem to.

Rule V doesn't discourage tanking. Rule V gives tanking teams first dibs (by poor record) on players of teams who have GMs who draft well and acquire good young players regardless of that team's record. Tanking teams get another source of good players basically for free because they're tanking.

Your assertion that tanking and bringing back Rule V hurts tanking teams is confusing to me. Rule V simply provides first shot at "free" players to bad record teams simply because the Rule 5 drafting team is bad.

In the past I've been as anti-tanking as anyone around here (though I admittedly don't care about many rules arguments anymore) but Rule 5 is not really even a partial solution to that issue.

Tanking has proven a viable (and popular) strategy in the BLB. I think it's here to stay and don't mind anymore. If I had any patience I'd do it. I even began to try last season.

From my experience, tanking isn't nearly as fun as it sounds.

I like the Rule 5 Draft in real life. In our league, it seemed to be a constant source of unnecessary drama as teams lost top prospects they didn't intend to leave unprotected, whether because they missed a sim or didn't realize they were eligible. If we could somehow prevent that from happening, I'd be all for it coming back. I won't hold my breath.

It simply wasn't realistic. Besides a simple "shit I forgot that guy" As long as GMs saw the POT rating you'd be forced to put not ready guys on the 40 man rosters basically starting the clock and kid no where near ready.

It can take anywhere from 3-12+ years. You really really need to hit those draft picks and have some luck along the way. Not sure I could do a decade tank without being bored.

It's popular in many sports today. Lol and as the Cubs just showed.......

I thank umd for naming Rule 5 correctly in the middle of his post.

Until everyone can consistently call it Rule 5 it has no business being discussed in a return.

4 Arms will be called up from Miami this September as Rivera and Flores are at the end of their contracts and we have no intention of offering them what they are asking to stay with the team... Letīs see if any of the young guys can put some stats up and find themselves in the opening day Roster of 2020. So far here are the chosen:

                          Tommy Gantt
                          Tom Stewart
                          Jammie Strickler
                          Pat Adams

Strickler and Adams are Wild car call-ups as our scout likes them, they expect to be in the Show and have decent stats so far in AAA.

Time to find out what are the hitters / fielders that will practice with the Sharks during September.

Lots of call ups in the burgh this year. Hopefully the plan to have depth will do us well down the stretch.

A primanti sandwich will be the welcome (or welcome back) gift for:

Oldham, Frausto, Council, Monson, Rapier, DeShon, Grenier, Cleto, McGowan, Zach Bromley....also making their Miller debuts are... Javon Spann and Ted Kessler. Spann was acquired a loooongggg time ago from Toronto, in one of the most intense negotiations Spear and I ever had, in what turned out to be a slop for slop deal. Spann has pitched to a sub 3 era the last two years and damnit he's earned a shot in the show.

Ted Kessler, one of my favorite draft picks of all time makes his millers debut after spending some time in the Carolina system.

Crunch time, were all playing for second this year so it doesn't even matter but hey, someday Matt's gonna have to make that millers banner and OH MY GOD it will be the most satisfying thing ever.

As an Orioles fan, I fucking detest the Rule V draft. They waste so much time/money/roster space on guys who may or may not be future bench guys.

Agreed! I'd rather retool and go, but it didn't work well (possibly due to poor GM decisions) so I had to rebuild through the draft, which is not exactly tanking. Tanking is being purposefully bad for 3 or 4 years, and hoarding your studies in the minors the whole time.
