Arghh! Right back in the wild card. This next 16 games are against Wilmington, Toronto, and Maine. If we can somehow traverse that murderer's row of a schedule, we could actually be battle tested and ready for a wild card game... or... completely out of the race.

It is also time to bring up T.J. Broughton (2016 1st pick, round 2) and Silvian Brouwer (2017, 24th pick, round 1) for some September seasoning in order to get them ready for next year. Both have been ready for quite some time now, so we'll see how the heat of a wild card pennant race suites them.

5-1 for the Bats and we extend the lead in the Stout.

It was a week of close games, as we took 2/3 from Death Valley and then swept Seattle, all games played in DC. The sweep was all done in one-run games, two of them in extra so I feel fortunate about that. Our only loss was also in extra innings, but that'll happen. I'd be happier if we just held on to late inning leads instead of needing dramatic walkoff wins, but it all counts I guess. Three blown saves isn't good for the stress level of DC fans.

        Notes:

-Ed Carroll is a good pitcher.

-Besides Carroll, the rest of my starters did just fine as well. Villasenor appears to have shaken off his slow start and is solid again now.

-I'm worried my bullpen guys may be out of gas a little bit. Fajardo was really good early but hasn't been as effective and some other guys are letting in runs now as well.

-I couldn't be any happier with what Szeto Mao has given me. He's been great as my backup catcher. I couldn't ask for anything more than what I've gotten out of the catcher position.

-September call-ups: I'm thinking I'll bring up Roseboom, Koehler, Thompson and Kurtz. Well, at least 2 of those pitchers. Reinforcements are on the way.

We didn't have a winning SIM this past month as we went 13-16. Our first losing month in a long time, and not a good time to have one as Washington went 19-9.

Hopefully we can hold onto the WC spot. I knew we weren't as good as advertised come All-Star break. We took some massive hits this year with old FA fillers...William George, Travis Krummen, and Taylor Clarkson have all sucked it up.

We really should have done some trades but I've just been so busy in real life with family and the holidays. Also we are 9 days away from my second daughter being born so that's been the real countdown the last month. Getting the room ready, getting all the old stuff out and operational again, cleaning bottles, washing clothes. It's hard to believe my 2 year old, as small as she seems now, was really that small! I'll do my best to keep ahead with any playoff SIM's (if we make it) so I don't slow everyone down.

We never talked about how on May 28, Philadelphia third baseman Travis Kemp started a game against Davenport ... as the starting pitcher.

He threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run, for an ERA of 3.86.

85 wins, 6 wins lead for the #1 Seed. It smells like another 100+ W season for the Sharks. Gomez is making his $20 Million contract worth it, not only among the Top defensive players in the league, but putting his 25th hit over the fence with another dinger against the Patriots this week

Carillo had a nice start for us. He's been on the DFA since we claimed him from Windy City. Weren't sure where to put him but this seemed like the right sim (because the rules stipulated we had to make a decision now).

With expanded rosters, Benites will get called back up. As much as I want to play the youth, Anthony and McCrory have been too solid to sit.

Cohen 7.1 Scoreless innings and 2 Saves since the middle of August. Seems that we are getting in rythm... I wish I could save some of this performance for the Play-offs, it wouldn't be nice another one and done against Maine...

Great 6-0 sim for the Blues, sweeping Philly and Carolina and retaking the division lead. Sweeping Philly in Philly was a really nice surprise. We rebounded from a poor July by going 17-10 in August, which was the month I was most worried about at the start of the season. Hopefully we can keep that momentum going in September.

In his last 3 starts Teel has thrown 25 innings and allowed 12 hits and no runs. He has tallied a win in each of his last 5 starts.

Three sims ago we were just above 58-54 and 5th in the IL in runs scored and runs allowed. Your definition of a mediocre club. I decided that if we were going to make a run at anything we'd have to have an identity. Either we were going to be a club that scored runs or a club that played great defense. I decided to bring up Moulton and Goen to replace Asiku and Ditto in an attempt to shore up our outfield defense at the cost of one of our best batters and another solid contributor. Since then we've gone 13-5. In runs scored we have dropped from 5th to 6th, but in runs allowed we've gone from 5th to 3rd. Goen is playing as expected, average at the plate and spectacular in the field. Moulton is playing well above his ratings, simply shutting down right field and batting .291 with 6 HRs. Moulton won player of the week honors this sim.

With Goen and Moulton making quick jumps from AA to the BLB I don't have much to bring up for September. I'll be bringing up Jimmy Farrell in RF, Dave Cooley in LF (all the way from AA), and giving Joey Conway another shot in the bullpen.

Pawtucket 4-2 getting us 5 games back with a month to go. We've come back from worse, but alot of teams to leapfrog. We've been stuck forever behind Hartford, New Orleans and Cali so if were gonna make the move its now.

Our AAA players are pretty good and our PTY suggest we should be right there in the end compared to the teams above us.

                              Time to see what happens.
