  • 2019 Official Draft Discussion Thread

Still a few sims away but it's never too early to discuss! I haven't spent a ton of time looking it over but this seems to be a down year in the draft, especially for hitters. It's definitely no 2014. Few Draft Notes:

-The Louisiana State University rotation is pretty remarkable. Three of their SPs are projected to go in the Top 10 of the draft.

-Best name nominee: OF Kas de Vos

-According to OSA there are only 6 hitters with a 6 on contact, no 7s. One seven gap power. Only two hitters with 7 HR power potential. 19 players with 6 eye, no 7s, no 8s. Five hitters with 7 avoid K. Two pitchers with potential 8 control! Four with 7. No pitchers with 7 movement. Four pitchers with 7 stuff. None with 8.

-Kansas City picks 1st, 7th, 11th, 21st, 27th and 35th. There farm system currently ranks 5th in the BLB.

-Dallas and Philadelphia are tied for worst Minor League System in the BLB with no Top 100 prospects. The Sharks pick 26th while the Freedom don't have a selection until 5.19!

-According to the BLB news, there is only one High Schooler projected to go in the Top 10, 2B Ron Nucci. The 17-year-old has a projected hitting ratings of 6-6-5-4-7, 7-7-7 speed and hits lefty. A younger Jimmy Anderson-type?

Shoutout to liquidcrash for reminding me to make sure prospects are getting appropriate playing time on their teams and aren't stuck on disabled lists despite being healthy.

Them getting the playing time they deserve will help us make more informed decisions.

We don't pick until round five and allocated our scouting budget accordingly this year.

No plans to trade into the top rounds.

It looks like there are a number of starting pitching prospects who project to have above-average control.

My first impressions are the same as Pat's. I'm not that impressed with this draft class, but I haven't really begun any preparations yet. I also have a new scout this season, so it might just be the way he views prospects differently than my past guy. Most of the ugys he has at the top of the list have pretty underwhelming scouting reports.

But, I'm sure I'll find some guys I like once I really get into the numbers a bit more.

No problem. I wish the game was smarter about that with feeder leagues. But, since I don't pick until 22, I'll have to hope some guys slide past where they should. It stinks picking late.

The best time of the year is coming, is it the utility up yet? So you pick based on your regular season?? Not in the play offs?

Agree with Pat, this draft class is very 'meh'.
Was looking to trade-up, but that's probably not going to happen.
Looks like there are plenty of guys within the same skill range from 1st to 30th.

This draft class sucks. Sorry in advance Carlos , but it's thin as can be.

Cup half full, this usually means the following year will be good.

The system should be like in the NFL... Or is it in the MLB like us?

There are going to be a good number of reliable, above average players in this draft and someone will end up being a star. But it's going to take a ratings bump we can't see.
