    Next SIM: 2019 Free Agency 5 - Saturday 11/12

File, reports, and utility are updated.

    Stat of the Day!

    DFA: Davenport, Toronto
    Roster:
    Single A Age:

    Offseason Schedule

    11/12 Sat AM - Free Agency 5 - Feb 1 to Feb 16
    11/13 Sun AM - Free Agency 6 - Feb 16 to ST
    11/15 Tues AM - Spring Training 1
    11/16 Wed AM - Spring Training 2

    Reminder

    14. CONTRACTS
    • If Team Option is used the Buyout must be the difference between Option year and highest Guaranteed year.
    • Only one Team Option may be used per contract, and it must be in the last year of the contract. This prevents people from stacking Player Options after the Team Option.
    • Players cannot be signed to contract extensions until after they have received their third arbitration contract. Players become eligible for contract extensions once they have three "Received a 1-year contract worth a total of $xx through arbitration." in their player history.

Seattle signs former Washington 2B Johnny Lopez to a two-year team option deal at $3.5M. I'm not sure how he fits into my crowded infield but I'm excited about the addition. Lefty. Durable. Turned 28 in January. Very high work ethic. Some speed. Had a down year at the plate but his BLB 162 game AVG: 3.0 WAR, .284 AVG, .735 OPS, 111 OPS+ in 129 GS and 581 PA.

Seattle was outbid however for veteran RP Jarod "Sunshine" Davidson, who ended up taking more money to play in Toronto. That Canadians team is starting to look very interesting.

They're really coming together. The Watts signing is a big one.

I always liked Lopez, so I'm a bit surprised that he didn't draw more attention in free agency given his production. For me, he didn't fit anymore as a lefty who doesn't have a ton of position versatility. But, he'll probably continue to do well. I was hoping to trade him, but no one offered anything to me, so I had to let him walk.

I signed OF Jamie Roberts, who previously played in Batavia. Fits what I need as a right-handed bat who can play corner outfield. Everyone I've got at either corner is a lefty, so he'll fit in a platoon here and hopefully provide some value.

What's funny, is I was considering making an offer on Lopez, but after you declined his arbitration I too assumed he would receive a lot of interest and directed my offers to Zurita and Kroll.

Pretty excited about this infield. Dave Nelson was traded away and Henne let go to FA, but we have rebounded nicely. A lot of versatility and defense, with a good mix of RH/LH/SH.

Watts really wanted that 6th year. We were going back and forth so much on a shorter term deal and weren't getting anywhere. I finally gave in to what he wanted and we are more than happy to add him as our number 2 in the rotation!

Regarding my DFA, didn't see it. So that's why my recent FA signing was released?

Yes. I would have put him on your active roster or in AAA, but your 40-man roster is full and it couldn't be done.

Got it, no problem. I was questioning the signing anyways.

I had some discussions with him but never made a formal offer.

I was surprised to see that, according to my view, he was asking for a 6-year deal at $11M per on the Top Free Agents page. That seemed like a steal in terms of salary. But this past SIM when I would go to make an offer he told me that he would want a salary for $23M per year. Quite a bit different than the $11M, so I figured your offer must have been in the high teens or low 20s. Which, priced me out.

Had I known he would have signed $14.5M per, I might have tried to top it slightly. Well done. According to my scout, who sucks by the way, his control bumped up to an "8" in November and has stayed strong. He turns 32 soon and might see a velocity dip during the deal but it probably won't hurt him that much as he's never been a strikeout guy anyways. Iron man. High intelligence/work ethic. I think it's a great signing.
