    14. CONTRACTS
    • If Team Option is used the Buyout must be the difference between Option year and highest Guaranteed year.
    • Only one Team Option may be used per contract, and it must be in the last year of the contract. This prevents people from stacking Player Options after the Team Option.
    • Players cannot be signed to contract extensions until after they have received their third arbitration contract. Players become eligible for contract extensions once they have three "Received a 1-year contract worth a total of $xx through arbitration." in their player history.

Only significant signing to us was Kroll who went to Seattle for an extra 80K per over us. :(

Got Kayden Walker to sign a relatively cheap extension and picked up Lerma who I'm hoping can be a solid bench/platoon guy. I'll take it.

Seattle (finally) brings in Kroll. He was initially on my radar as a FA in 2016 but we went cheap on the offer and he signed with Kansas City. That season he posted a 2.0 WAR in 114 games between Kansas City and Pittsburgh. I think he should push SS Dave Hallock to the bench vs. RHSP and I'm hopeful with his very high work ethic he ages well over the two-year deal.

Our other player signing is international catcher Xi-tong Bing from Taiwan. My scout thinks he is an average hitter while OSA has him slightly less. However he has solid catching ability and he has near elite intangibles. He turns 31 in May so I figure this is probably going to be a make or break season for him. Getting a potential starting quality catcher for $1.1M seemed like a good risk.

We also brought in a new bench coach and hitting coach in former BLBers Elton Sears and Steve "Pongo" Boyd. I'm perticularly happy about Boyd, as he has a "excellent" reputation with a speciality in power, my teams strength.

Two signings I really like were both by Kansas City. The Aussie SP Calvin Mildren and SS/3B T.J. Corbett. I made offers on both, but was only close in money on Corbett. They debut at #8 and #10, respectively on the Comet's top 20. Probably somewhere in the #120-#150 range of top prospects. My scout sees Mildren only as a back-end SP with a nice changeup, but OSA likes him quite a bit. Corbett is a switch hitting slick fielder with speed. I'm surprised someone didn't bid higher.

Liked Mildren. Did not offer anything close to that deal. But I get it.

I made Mildren an offer as well. Forgot to mention that we added 3B Lauriano as a nice back up or an option if Pat Brown, who's getting his chance this year, doesn't work out.

Would've made Mildren an offer if I didn't have so much money tied up in pitching already. Scout wasn't as high on him as I'm sure others were, but I think he'll be decent.

Happy to get Mildren so quickly especially since it appears a few other teams were interested. Probably a back end of the rotation guy but he's still better than what we have and we can obviously afford to gamble a little bit.

Nothing doing in Washington so far. I always seem to misjudge the initial signings. I always go up from their demands a bit, but never enough it seems. Luckily there's very few signings in this opening period.

Aside from that, should we expect anything from this Pat Evans story? Sometimes if feels like these offseason stories are mainly fluff. As much as I'd like to see Pat Evans fall off a cliff, I'm not getting my hopes up.

His supermodel wife he married last offseason put him on a green diet. It's no big deal.
