  • 2018 Award Voting

Voting is enabled but now is the time to pimp your players! In Seattle....

SP Felipe Vega deserves strong consideration for the IL Pale Ale Pitcher.

    16-6, 1.78 ERA, .96 WHIP, 181.2 IP, 168 K

    IL Ranks:
    ERA - 1st
    Wins - 4th
    H/9 - 2nd
    HR/9 - 2nd
    AVG - 3rd
    WHIP - 3rd
    ERA+ - 1st
    WAR - 8th
    FIP - 7th
    K - 12th

He scheduled to throw one more game this season. He doesn't rank as high in statistical categories like strikeouts, WAR or FIP. He relies a lot on the defense behind him with 72% groundball. It would also be a bit of a "best story vote" as the 38-year-old Vega had a career year in his 15th season. If you are a saber metrics guy, he might not even get a top three vote due to his lower WAR.

Strong competition for the award with Pat Evans (PHI), Ian Clark (BAT), Jimmy Lewis (DEN), Dave Teel (WC) and others having great seasons.

Voodoo Davila probably earned DL Stout Slugger this year, all due respect to Jamie O'Hearn, Dylan Owens, and others.

Best OPS by a wide margin, including the top OBP mark. Tops in runs created per 27 and wins above replacement (WAR) by a meaningful amount, too.

And of course, he's a catcher, which makes the offensive performance even more valuable.

He somehow improved on his 2017 season.

I would push hard for Jimmy Lewis but I know the lack of wins isn't very exciting. Surprise pitcher of the year might be the more worthy award.

            Tristan Dryden for Pale Ale.

Voting for anyone else is like voting for Trump.

Okay maybe a few votes to Baase. Owens had a 6.5 WAR to Baase's 5.5.

If you don't think Jamie O'Hearn was the best player in the DL this year then you must be smoking the same grass as Z. Dominant at the dish, dominant in the field, dominant on the base paths. It's not close, but he won't win.

Don't let your disdain of the millers gm prevent you from voting for the best player in the league

I would agree O'Hearn is the most well-rounded player. I disagree with your assertion that it makes him the best.

To suggest that I must be smoking grass to think the league leader in OPS and WAR is the best player in the league is in itself crazy.
