Adrian Pulido is 5-0 in 5 GS since coming over from Baltimore. He's already the most successful in season trade piece in my time here. Hell, even Alex Torres is starting to contribute. I don't want August to end at this point. Another lengthy injury, however, as LHP PAt Guay goes down for the rest of the season. Now I'm glad we picked up Dunn the Lesser for pitching depth.

Finally Pawtucket on a roll, but our team is banged up right now.

September call ups can't happen soon enough.

We went 5-2 this week, ending our 10 game road trip with a 7-3 record. After going 5-1 last sim, I'm happy with how we've played lately. Batavia and Philadelphia don't appear to want me in the Stout race, but our position in the Wildcard is in solid shape right now.

Our fielding is definitely better, we've moved into a positive ZR as a team for year, after being about -6 or so before this month.

Offensively, we hit another 9 HR's this week, that's been the big thing for us the past couple sims. In far more surprising news, Dusty McKay hit our first cycle in 4 seasons in Washington. McKay has a "2" rating for all of his running stats. The triple he hit in the game was just the 9th of his career in over 4000 plate appearances and first of the season.

Man, I'm just shaking my head at what's happened to my club this month.

Jimmy Lewis has somehow remained unscathed by the downfall. How this guy continues to pitch so well, I can't say. But I'm happy to have him and he's only 24.

The bullpen was so strong but I can't even say the innings are the problem because Steffen and Bell are still pitching very well. It seems it's a different pitcher every other game that explodes. I feel that's the major difference.

We are giving up more runs now. Suddenly the 7th most. How does that happen?

We made trades to improve our offense and in a weird twist the game responded, "That's cool, now your pitching will suck."

There's no answer for the game deciding (random rolls) this sort of thing.

Random rolls or not, I just think the IL Top 8 are all very similar when it comes to pitching. Look at the total ERs by team:

                  Batavia - 373
                  DC - 382
                  Denver - 403
                  Philly - 405
                  Seattle - 406
                  Windy City - 411
                  New York - 422
                  Los Alamos - 429
                  Balt - 439
                  DVS - 441

Denver is 3rd in ERA but 7th in runs allowed. That leads me to think the defense has been poor. You rank 6th in BABIP and defense.

Since coming to Denver, Dave Slack, Travis McCrory, Manny Reyes and Travis Anthony have all been negatives in the field. Some have played very poorly so far in fact.

                    3-3 week, 0-3 @ Philly, 3-0 @ Carolina. I'll take it.

Two more injuries losing my #3 and #4 SPs, Jamie Stidham and Jonathan Arnholt for three and two weeks, respectively. Somehow we are tied with Los Alamos for the Bock. They got Gil Mullins and Rod Sedevic back this week but only managed 1-5 @ BAT/PHI. It's pretty clear that the Muckdogs and Freedom are the class of the IL.

Luckily, I got three @ Batavia to start the sim on Monday. If we make it out of August .500 for the month, it will be a miracle.

In minor league news, we lost in the playoffs and failed to defend our Triple-A crown! Congrats to the Memphis Railcats! Yes, Wilmington has one of the best young rosters in the BLB, the leagues 2nd best record, the Triple-A Champions and an above average farm system ranking 12th.

Can we steal a wildcard and finish above .500? Who knows, this season has been so strange for us.

Rory Gray might end up with 40 HR and 75 RBI.

Our defense has been trending down for the past two months.

You're right, it doesn't help the new guys aren't fielding well. But they aren't all replacing anyone special.

Terrible sim for us, going 1-5 against Carolina and Batavia. I tinkered with my lineup and my rotation, and it seems to have bitten me in the rear. My bullpen didn't do me any favors this week either, blowing a couple saves.

This week we finish our road trip in Philly before heading back home to face Carolina, Batavia, and Philadelphia again. After that our final four sims consist of only Bock opponents. We've got our work cut out, but I still believe we're in playoff contention.

On the plus side, the Rockford Playboys ran through the AA playoffs posting scores of 6-2, 19-3, and 7-3. I know it doesn't mean much, but I still like it when my minor league clubs do well.
