It happens. I could probably try and fix it with a big short term move but I don't think I want to. I've seen this coming for a while now.

The hitting streak is over at 25 games. Frank Rico tore his UCL and will be out 14 months. Another great sim record wise from the Cats going 5-1, losing our closer hurts. Rico was having a great season with 12 saves and a 1.59 ERA. Might be the eternal pessimist in me but this one sucks.

Okay so far the Ale has gone completely off the deep end. 3 of the top records belong here and even Pitt and Syr so far aren't half bad.

Crazy. I can't even complain about being in 2nd place right now.

Ouch! It's still early, plus Dylan Owens has a much more capable management system. When it comes to developing their BLB roster, California front office is still throwing mud at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Wilmington now has two of the top ten players in the BLB.

One of them is a 24 year old superstar shortstop.

The star outfielder is only 21 years old.

              Terrifying.

Drafting high and hoarding picks for a long time really is the way to go.

Not even sure that applies here.

Wilmington drafted Lewis in the fourth round, 92nd overall. That's not drafting high or hoarding picks; it's some combination of good player evaluation, player development, and luck.

KC fans hope so as well. Toronto and Baltimore need to get with the program and start losing more.

Good catch! Clearly some teams have a better handle on procuring and developing young talent.

Yes and no. Look at the rest of that roster. All high picks.

Seven first round picks under 29 with many in the top 5. Three 2nds and two thirds. That's 12 of 25 players drafted high in the first 3 rounds.

Isn't that true of most teams though?

Take my club as an example.

I've never bottomed out with Maine. Not once. Our worst record was 76-86 in 2015. We've only been below .500 that year and in 1998 when we went 79-83.

And yet, look at my core players:

Voodoo Davila, first round, seventh overall
Dave Toste, first round, third overall
Steve Suarez, first round, 13th overall
Antonio Banuelos, second round, 39th overall
Andy Garcia, first round, fifth overall
Hector Gutierrez, first round, seventh overall
Jarrod Rowles, third round, 61st overall
Izzy Rivera, first round, 12th overall
Joey Long, first round, 8th overall
Ignacio Alvarez, first round, 17th overall

(A few of those guys weren't my picks, but most of them were.)

Almost any team is ultimately built with players who were high picks. Sure, when you're bad, you increase the likelihood of getting better players. But I don't think the advantage is as large as it's made out to be.
