I've traded up and back in just about every single draft I've been in. Literally every single one. That's bitching just to bitch, save it for when I do something that's worth bitching about.

      • Like the Sliney pick by Maine. He was the #1 guy left on my board.

The Guides choose center fielder Dave Sliney from Florida State.

I may be talked out of this plan in the next several weeks, but the current intention is to have Sliney skip the minor leagues and make his professional debut as the Maine Guides' starting center fielder.

I'm not sure if anyone has skipped the minors entirely before. It's the plan here.
I'm very interested to see how this will work.

My scout doesn't think much of him, but I sure do. I was hoping he'd drop to me and I was actually thinking about starting him in AAA.

I think there's a perception that GMs don't get high enough returns for trading down/out of top-13 picks.

That's not on you or Pat or anyone else specifically.

It's an ongoing thing over the years.

I love it!! Although, I've only been a GM for a short while, it seems like the last few classes have guys that can make the jump rather quickly.
He was the top guy on my board. I guess slipping to 2.3 was out of the question

Is it bitching? If it's taken that way it wasn't meant to.

It took me awhile to see the light but I just don't think playoff teams should be able to move up into the top portion of the draft. Other teams have done it. I've done it. Other GMs were trying to do it in this draft.

I just think in a "what's best for the league" approach, teams shouldn't be allowed to trade 1st round picks. I'm probably in the minority but that's what I think.

                  • I really hoped to get Sliney too- with him off the board there are a few guys that I certainly like but no one guy that stands out. However the opportunity to pick up an early 2nd round pick this year and have two first round picks next year was really appealing- will see ya'll in the 2nd round :)

You're right, he'd have never made it past 2.2. If he had lasted a bit longer I would have looked into moving up for him.

                      • Speaking of getting screwed with draft trades, I think I gave up a Top 5 pick to Clay in one of my first years here for some crusty old veteran...don't remember who it was anymore but I learned my lesson early haha

                        • To toot my own horn a bit, I might be the only GM to get fleeced by a GM trading down from a high pick, when I dealt three firsts for a top five pick to draft Dave Toste.

HTML says he also played in AA and AAA that year.

Did he play in the minors after starting the year in the BLB?

If I recall someone got hurt and he was up before being sent down more than once. He yoyo'ed which was dumb on my part.
