  • DELANDIS!!! How fucking dare you trade up!!!

BDUB!!! Are you serious??? Why would you make that trade? Don't you know that you should only take a short sighted view and NEVER plan for long term!!!

Good thing there was a FAIR VALUE trade made earlier to set a goddamn market for activity in this leagues draft

      • 15 pages into the draft discussion before someone tells others to "suck on it." That's some kind of record, isn't it?

But I do agree, let's let each of us decide what's best for our team.

It took me awhile to see the light but I just don't think playoff teams should be able to move up into the top portion of the draft. Other teams have done it. I've done it. Other GMs were trying to do it in this draft.

I just think in a "what's best for the league" approach, teams shouldn't be allowed to trade 1st round picks. I'm probably in the minority but that's what I think.
I completely agree! It's frustrating to see a team dominate and have a high first round pick.

I get that it's being a good GM, but if the rules were tighter it may make for more competitive balance.

              • By the way, it's amazing to look at the high school league and see that the average high school team scores 9 runs a game.

Is that accurate? I have no high school baseball experience.

High school scoring is usually high but I don't know that it's normally this high.

                    • We might have seen a promising career snuffed out before it began in this draft class.

High school SP J.J. Landress was pegged by OSA as having 8/5/6 potential just a year ago.

After a couple hand injuries, he's down to 6/5/5.

The Guides choose center fielder Dave Sliney from Florida State.

I may be talked out of this plan in the next several weeks, but the current intention is to have Sliney skip the minor leagues and make his professional debut as the Maine Guides' starting center fielder.

I'm not sure if anyone has skipped the minors entirely before. It's the plan here.
That's who I would have taken.

                        • Pawtucket drafts SP Joey Hargis at 19.

My scout has him rated at a 5-6-7 as a potiental 1 or 2 starter. OSA has him at a 6-6-5. At 17 his movement is already a 5 and control a 4 so some development is there.

Velocity has begun to improve , but still low at 86-88 so needing our coaches to work him on arm strength. Showed a marked improvement this season in HS.

He's also an asshole so no one will like him. We won't be seeing him in the big leagues for awhile.

                              • With pick #18, I took OF Tom Roseboom from Stanford. He plays CF in college, but I don't think he'll stick there, so he's probably headed for a corner OF spot. He's battled some injuries this season, but he's hit well when he's been in the lineup. My scout believes he's got some potential to be a star, but I'm not sure I'd go that far. Could be a solid hitter with some good speed on the basepaths if it works out. I don't have a lot of OF prospects at the moment, so hopefully he can develop pretty quickly.

I'm not overjoyed with the pick. There's one guy still out there that I'll probably kick myself for not drafting, but hopefully Roseboom will do ok for me.
