      Ok.

I'm going to say it since nobody else will.

You can't delay opening day. If it isn't in the rules, it should be.

It means I'm channeling my inner Shark and bummed that I have to wait an extra day for the Opening Day sim.

            Oh.

            Yeah.

Losing 12 hours today was too much, I think.

Especially considering people not having enough time to get their active rosters down to 25 players creates cascading problems.

It's unfortunate but easier to wait an extra day and make sure everyone gets an export in.

Glad with the signing of Catcher Wayne Nelson, he will contribute platooning with McKay or Smith since day one. The fan interest crept slightly which is always nice!

                    Can´t wait to opening day!!

Some solid battles for us this Spring.

*Sad to see AAA warrior Hector Perdomo tear his rotator cuff after such a terrific season back in the bigs last year. He'll head to the DL and is probably done for his career.

*25 year old Rookie FA MR CJ Heartfield has earned a spot in the bullpen with a strong spring. Hopefully he's a fixture there for a long time.

*SP TJ Dunn and SU John Carlson got roughed up in the spring. We'll see if it was rust or old age setting in. Carlson will start the season as a middle reliever instead of our primary set-up man. Dunn will get April to figure things out in the rotation. After that, we'll go from there. I hope our pitching MVP from last season is still in there somewhere.

*SP Dave Stephens has won the #6 job in the rotation.

*IF Jerry Vicente wins a spot on the 25 man with McCrory's injury. He'll start at 2B this week vs lefties.

*Yuji Ryu will hit the waiver wire.

*3B JD Harper is up for good. Whether it's as a starter or a key reserve will depend on if Travis Kemp stays in Vegas the season.

*Potential slugger Jarrod Brown will get another shot to be a starter in LF to start the season.

Some of the kids are gonna stay up and get their shots and others will work out the kinks in extended ST at AAA Reno.

*Zhang and Maggio are off to Reno. They'll be joined by MR Ed Hoffman.

*Zach Lawrence, Jamie August, Tom Ragosta, Pat Strawder, JJ Stampone and CF Pat Hartzell have all been optioned to AAA to start the season.

I updated my block Shark Style (way too long, arguable talent, and overpriced) if you need to fill a gap here or there. I'm willing to negotiate.

Pawtucket 21-7 which is to be expected with this veteran lineup. The great news is no injuries as we continue to use a rotation system during spring training. It probably will hurt us in the long run with development, but when you have an aging team you do what you can to keep it going.

Traded for Lefty Mongo at the end of pre-season and also a back end RP in Dave Garcia. Neither are knock it out of the park, earth shattering players, but it should add some depth and stability to our pitching staff. Lets face it, with 4 top hitters we've morphed into a softball team. Keep us in the game is the pitching staffs role.

I've seen the predictions for us range from 92 wins up to 101. I'm gonna go with 96 and say we miss 100 wins for the first time in 4 seasons(2nd for this decade)

Riding this train until the wheels come off the tracks.

                              Washington Bats Spring Training Thoughts

                              - We finished up ST at 16-12, so not bad in terms of results. I don't worry too much about that, but it's nice to see us not be a complete dumpster fire even in Spring.

-Tristan Moody's injury setback is a painful blow to us to start the year. He was already out until July, but with this setback, I think he's going to miss the entire season. I had it all planned out last year, traded for Moody to replace Wayne Nelson who was leaving in Free Agency. Now that plan has been destroyed.

-The bright spot at catcher in Spring was Willie De Jesus. A former high ranking prospect, he was awful last year, but hit .315/.367/.479. If he can hit close to that in the real games, we'll be ok behind the plate. Maybe the light came on for him. Antonio Gonzalez, my backup catcher right now, had an .802 OPS, so there's some glimmers of hope.

-Urmson still looks like a star. Haraguchi hit extremely well, and Morales was also solid. We're going to need the stars to carry us this season.

-Ed Carroll was very good this Spring, with a 2.25 ERA, 18 strikeouts and only 2 walks allowed. Besides him, my pitchers struggled a bit, but that seems to be the usual case for them in Spring. Israel Rodriguez was brilliant closing out games.

-The young guys didn't assert themselves to take spots in the lineup/rotation as we head into the regular season. Roger Villasenor was ok, but he'll head back to AAA Richmond, as will 1B CJ Turnbow and SS Zack Davenport. The only rookie to break camp with the BLB club is 3B Jarrod Sanders, but he will be relegated to the bench or platoon duty to start the year.

-I think we can compete this season, at least for a playoff spot. But, with some older guys filling many of my crucial spots, I'll be closely monitoring the results. If things don't get off to a good start, the time to break up this core might come sooner than I'd like.
