2018 Spring Training 2 SIM Complete - Next SIM OPENING DAY Wednesday 8/31
lol cuz he sucks . Good luck with him. I'll take my chance with Garcia. As for Morikawa he stays at setup but I was just seeing his age and kind of wondering why so late in life?
He did okay in ST, letīs see how he does during the regular season
Miami Sharks (BLB) * BLB Champions --> 2017, 2020.
Interesting things coming out of Millers spring camp this year.
- Johnny Skolfield has won the opening day shortstop job for the team. Acquired in the Todd Taylor trade with Wilmington, the 22 year old was viewed as a guy who would likely start in AA or AAA and contribute as a bench piece down the stretch. Instead, he slugged to a tune of .305/.391/.454/.815 OPS. With veteran William Kroll on the roster as insurance, the team will head into April with Skolfield as the starter.
- Jamie O'Hearn picked up right where he left off. This spring he mashed, producing a line of .314/.347/.771 ... 1.187 OPS, 8 HR and 19 RBI in 16 GS. We'll need him to be a superstar for this thing to work, and he looks like he's up to the challenge.
- Where are they now update on former 5th overall selection Cy Mock, Last year he demonstrated the hitting ability that was hoped for when drafted that high, hitting .309/.361/.466 for an .827 OPS in his first extended shot as a starter. Mock is going to need to be a real important piece of the puzzle, and this spring he hit .380/.397/.648/1.045
- In this edition of "I can't wait to see what happens next" with Bruce Gonzalez, He posts such an outrageous line that it earns him a spot on the roster. .146/.435/.171(!) ... .606 OPS. He had 6 hits, 17 strike outs, and 21(!) walks in 16 GS. If this dude hits 10-15 Homers, and bats even .230 he's going to end up being insanely valuable.
Problem is, I don't know if he can hit .230. We'll find out.
- On the pitching side, a major upset happened in the battle for the 6th spot in the rotation between Ivan Van Gorder and Jamie DeShon. DeShon won handily. He was dominant in the first part of the spring and won the job when he finished with 14.2 IP, a 0.61 ERA, 16 Ks - 3 BB. DeShon has consistently flown under the radar as a prospect, yet he has consistently produced results. The imposing 6'6 Righty from Maryland was acquired in the Ethan Bafford trade with Maine, and will be making his BLB debut this week against Syracuse.
Offensively, it's going to be a bit rocky to start, as guys start to figure out what roles they line up. Fortunately, we have our leadoff hitter and power bat secure in Vickers and O'Hearn but overall, once the engine starts turning, the offense should be good.
Pitching wise, we're confident in that our starters should be able to carry us to keep us competitive in the majority of our contests. The bullpen is a question mark heading into the season, but has potential to be good for a couple years. The backend duties will be handled by Wilson Mercado, with Atsushi Abe and Tom Bailey setting the table. I toyed with the idea of Pat Falvey as a Closer or starter, but overall I think he would really thrive (and be valuable) in a middle man type role where he can cover the middle innings and go throw multiple innings if needed.
Excited for opening day and to watch this team grow.
Just realising that you can't keep everyone... Some though decisions to make this upcoming off-season with the core of young players starting their arbitration hearings and some priced veterans in the roster eating the budget...
No brainer with Maher option that will free $4.5M
Will see how Rivera pitches this year and if he loses a step.
Liverett will go if Graffing finally wakes up or Barnard is ready for the Show in September.

Back in the day the Rule V draft sort of helped balance us out some. You end up getting a clogged system. Not complaining, it was done for a reason.
PAWTUCKET PATRIOTS Brewmaster's Cup Champions 2010, 2013, 2014, 2016 DL Champions 91, 03, 04, 10, 13, 14**,16,17 Ale Champions 92, 93, 94, 02, 03, 04, 10, 11, 13, 14**, 16, 17, 18 Wildcard 91, 95, 12
I really like how our offense played in the spring.
If the young guys can come close to that, we will make more noise than I expected in what's year 2 of the complete youth movement.
We will say bye for now to Pat Benites. He had a strong spring but I think Jimmy Lewis should help as a lefty starter at Rocky Top to start the season.
