    Offseason Schedule

    Sat 8/27 - Spring Training 1
    Sun 8/28 - Spring Training 2

    Reminder

    14. CONTRACTS
    • If Team Option is used the Buyout must be the difference between Option year and highest Guaranteed year.
    • Only one Team Option may be used per contract, and it must be in the last year of the contract. This prevents people from stacking Player Options after the Team Option.
    • Players cannot be signed to contract extensions until after they have received their third arbitration contract. Players become eligible for contract extensions once they have three "Received a 1-year contract worth a total of $xx through arbitration." in their player history.

How to make the most of spring training

    * Be aware of the possibility of injury. Players are more likely to suffer injuries in spring training than in the regular season, according to the OOTP manual. Keep this fact in mind as you set your depth charts. If you have players who are particularly fragile, carefully monitor their appearances during the spring. They're not in peak playing shape yet. Limit their action if you can — enough to shake off the rust, but not much more.

    * If you have the DH, use it wisely. Don't stick with your expected regular season lineup without thinking about it. The DH is a valuable tool in the spring for getting a vulnerable player at-bats without risking injury in the field. Use this tool to help your team get ready and healthy for the regular season.

    * It's the best time for learning new positions.
Players learn new positions more quickly in the spring, per the OOTP manual. If you want a player to get reps at a new position, spring training is the best time because (1) he'll progress more than usual, and (2) the learning curve won't impact your team's performance in meaningful games.

    * Don't stress out about performance. We're talking about a handful of at-bats and innings pitched. Players often don't play even half the game. Don't worry about a small handful of at-bats against unusual competition in irregular situations.

    * Fill out your roster. In OOTP 16 you can invite players to spring training without them having to occupy a spot on your active (regular season) and 40-man rosters. You have these spots — use them!

Pawtucket comes in basically with the same offense as last year.

Pitching will be a big issues.

Still should be able to compete, but no longer dominant. End of the decade.

Put in an offer to Goldberg, but looks like Indy beat us out there, so the offseason ends quietly in Washington. Pretty uneventful free agency for us, just a few depth pieces added with limited funds.

The preseason predictions has me winning 92 games. Well behind the predicted division winner, but safely in the playoffs, so not too bad. Four of the top 10 pitchers listed are on my team, so I'll take that as a positive. Ed Carroll is among them, that would be a great development if he can put up the numbers listed there.

We've got a good enough team that I think we can make the playoffs, but we're nowhere near the favorites in the Stout. It'll be tough.

Be real interesting to see how all the pieces fall into place. Always wondered if 'chemistry' had any bearing on this game or not.

2010 kind of made me believe it doesn't exist.

              Be fun to watch.

Between umd and the preseason predictions were tabbed for about 93 or so wins. Which is, optimistic to say the least. Wilmington, Hartford and Maine will all be very talented clubs, and in my eyes, our biggest competitiors heading into the season. I like the balance and personalities of this team heading into the year, but it'll definitely come down to young players taking steps forward. Going to leave it in the hands of manager Jerry Russell this year and step away from the 7 day lineups. His lineup idea differs significantly from mine, so I'll roll with his thoughts.

Big Jer wants to see McGowan in the two hole against righties, right in front of bffl, 'Burn' O'Hearn, and I kind of like that idea. Lot of pressure hitting between vickers and him but why not see if he can't get rolling early.

Intentional. I can see those teams being a sustained competitor for this year and the next few years. This team isn't built for a one year shot at a ring, I'm hoping to lay the framework of a team that has a chance to win for the next few years and even like you said, the end of the decade isn't promising for you.
