When everyone started talking about Zhang, I realized I had the money to make a strong offer. Carlson and Gault were two guys I really really wanted. I expected Zhang to be somewhere else and not in Vegas. Fajardo and Marrero will get paid but everyone else is cost controlled now or too old (Williams, Kemp) for me to pay them more than $12-$14m a year when the time comes.
A 23-year-old with potential. Always make an attempt. I don't personally think he's amazing but if you have the money, why not take the chance?

You know, the more I look at Zhang, the more I do see Fernando Hernandez in him. And we know how that turned out. I just have this feeling that Tinajero is going to be what Fuji couldn't be after 30, but was before 30.

We brought Pat Steffen back. And according to the game, the players are very happy.

The clubhouse was always well led, but having someone like Pat there apparently adds another level of leadership.

Not a lot negative anyone can say about a guy like Steffen. 227 innings the last two seasons. All in relief. He's a work horse.

When I started doing the math I could pay Reeves $25m over four years and worry he's falling off a cliff at age 36, 37, and 38. Or I could pay a 23 year old lefty that OSA likes that money at 24, 25, 26 and 27.

Mistyped. Meant Reeves. I wouldn't have paid Reeves $25m if he was a righty... Is what I meant to say.

I could of locked Reeve's outside the player option. Age was a big factor....but I also think he had a peak season. I've seen guys so this alot in they're mid 30's. They have a killer season just before the cliff comes.

Either way makes us a weaker team today. Two plus pitches and a groundball pitcher. When your a lefty in Pawtucket you better be a ground ball pitcher.

I get why someone would want Reeves but I had flashbacks of Robby Aten. I'm not taking that chance.

If someone can nab him for 2 years he's worth the chance. Lol, when we changed our salary structure those "player options" came back and bit me in the ass. Ironically I was doing it to appease the masses at that time versus crazy team option buyouts.

With that....I'm waiting to make some trades, but the dominos to pull some nice things off are stuck. Lol, we have "traders block" maybe for the first time in my history.

If his price goes down and I strike out on a couple guys, yes, I will be interested in a very short deal.

I also realize I outbid myself on nabbing Robby Aten because dumb decisions.
