2017 End of Season Awards

I haven't voted yet as I probably will take a look at teams tonight if it isn't too busy. Pat is the obvious front runner but with Philly and Washington heading a division with 5 90 win teams, Dallas, Batavia, and NY putting together great teams with relatively low payrolls, and usual wheel and deal winners like DVS, Pitt and Paw, I can't say there aren't others worthy of first place votes.

Tough year as always. Plus, HAL picks who it wants anyway right?

I voted for Spectre as well. The 2017 Shavermetrics had the Knights 19th in the BLB with the only IL teams rated worse being Davenport, Denver and Carolina. They need a little help to sneak in as the #5/#6 seed but no one saw this coming. And if they do make it I could see them making some noise. They posted a winning record against Seattle, Batavia and Death Valley.

2nd, I have Brad. The Freedom lost a ton of talent to free-agency: OFs Ethan Bafford and Zachary Oldham, SPs Dave Dunham and Ian Brooks. Those four had a 2017 combined salary of $60M. Without digging too deep, I think Dunham and Brooks were the highest paid SPs in Free-Agency while Bafford got one of the biggest deals in BLB history. In their place the Freedom signed OFs Tom Estes and Ernie Arbini, SPs Robby English and Alejanrdo Reudes (trade with $4M cash). Those four cost Philly just $25M this season. With three games remaining they have improved their record from 2016 and are just two games back of the #1 seed in the IL.

3rd, Shark. The Jimmy Collins (technically 2016) and Danny Gomez signings look really smart right now when at the time didn't receive too much praise. They have a chance to secure the #1 overall seed in the BLB with a player payroll of $90M. A 14 game improvement with three left to play. Who would have thought? Five years ago this one of the worst teams in the BLB and now they are arguably the best.

Honorable mention, Delandis. Like the Freedom, the Bulldogs were hit hard this off-season. No team lost more talent in the expansion draft than Baltimore. Losing the maximum five players including SP William Eddy, OF Malik Roberson, C Diego Flores, 1B Dylan Anthony and CL Robby Scriber. At that point, I thought Baltimore was headed to their first sub .500 season in almost a decade. Instead, Delandis found replacements via trade, FA signings and in-house promotions to not miss a beat. In fact, if Baltimore goes 3-0 to finish the season, they would actually improve on their 2016 win total.

This is always the toughest award to vote for. You can usually make a case for 1/3 the league.

Delandis might be the GM most diametrically opposed to me philosophically because he's constantly making moves I don't understand that almost always seem to work out.

I never, ever would have believed in D.J. LaRossa the way Delandis does. I don't understand why the player is good. Everything I see about him looks not good. But he's been so fucking good.

Hell, I don't even understand why Roberson is good. Delandis believed in him so much he traded a first to get him back from KC. And sure enough, he turned in yet another great season as a Bulldog.

Delandis is a sharp dude.

For the most part, I just listen to my scout. Regardless of how the bars look, if he says he's good and the stats match, I play the guy. I don't have enough baseball knowledge to keep up with you guys strategically, so I try to just be a GM.

I think should be no doubt with Arsenault leading the refreshing awards and Jimenez the last call relief in the DL Terrific seasons by the rookie and the veteran closer to help the Sharks to lift the first Brewmasters Trophy for the Franchise of Dallas.
