  • Shit. The last five picks just destroyed my big board.

    • Sorry for hour delay, pick is in.

With the first pick in the 2nd round, the Pilots select CF Erik Hines. OSA has him 5-5-3-3-7, with 6-6-6 speed and already rated 6 at CF. Despite missing seven games, he lead the entire CCBL in CF range, rating and efficiency, as well as finishing 6th in average and 6th in WAR. All 1st for CFs.

Something interesting I noticed...and I have yet to see on another player... On his morale page, if you scroll down it says "He is upset that there are too many slackers/selfish players on the team." That must be new?

Yeah it'll be on your players too. If you have chemistry issues. I also think it is tied to manager tendencies.

            • Nice picks by both Pat and Andrew.
I liked Hines and I can't believe Walz fell that far.
My scout had him at 10 overall. He has a great make-up as well.

              I just couldn't justify spending a 1st rounder on another 1B.

Hines looks very solid too. Great defensive ratings and college stats.

              • Went with Milt Loosier 38th overall. Might be a stretch but my scout has him at 6/5/8/8/5 potential and I'm curious to see if he pans out. His defense isn't quite where we'd like it but he did win the High School glove wizard award his freshman year so we know he's capable. And with a Very High work ethic, hopefully we can find it again.

Nice pick. He was on my list as well.
Just for reference sake, my scout has him at:
                  3/6/4/5/5

It's interesting seeing how differently some scouts rank players.
Most of the time, I trust my scout over OSA's ratings.
But there has been more than one prospect where my scout was wrong and incorrectly rated them worse than they were.
I have a pitcher in AA ball who my scout disliked greatly. Gave him no shot of making the majors and his ratings were below average.
But OSA really liked him. After 3 years, the ratings are much closer to what OSA had them, and now my scout things he's destined for stardum.

I enjoy the randomness of it as it seems to follow real-life pretty closely.
It forces the GM to use the OSA ratings, your scouts as well as stats to determine if the prospect will pan out.

It's also a reminder that just like in real life no one really knows. For all of the information out there, there is still a high numbers of busts and the odd really great second or third round player.

It's nice when you hit a Dave Wescott in the third round. Now if I could only get as lucky with one of my pitchers.

                    • Anybody looking to move up?

I'm at work and would like to stay in the round but give me time to get home and make a good pick. Needs to be a decent offer within the next 20 otherwise I'm going to try and hurry home and will be spotting the draft. Sorry in advance.

                        • Just noticed this. On the Orleans Cardinals jersey it says Firebirds. Why wouldn't it say Cardinals?

                          • It looks like the real life Orleans Cardinals changed their name to the Firebirds several years ago. I'm guessing we used an outdated list of team names when the Cape league was created, or it changed and we just never noticed/bothered to fix the name when the uniforms were updated.
