With the 12th overall pick, the Wilmington Wildcats are proud to select, from the Masconomet Chieftains, D.J. Nyygard. In his 3 seasons at Masconomet, Nyygard averaged a batting average of .344, an OPS of .441, and a SLG of .645. Nyygard not only topped off his high school career by winning the High School championship with the Chieftains, but took home championship MVP honors. We look forward to welcoming him into the Wildcats organization.

Complete dice roll here with Malik Clark. Could have been a top 5 pick if he doesn't get injured. We always have the long view in mind when with prospects and we will baby him along. If it was a shoulder I prob would have taken him off my board but the elbow is workable. We'll see ya in two years bud.

Shoulder injuries are harder to recover from?

It makes sense I guess based on pitching motion, but I didn't know that.

Love the pick. Was wondering how far he would fall with the injury. Pure value

Yes, shoulder injuries are always more difficult to return from than a normal TJ surgery

He was the only position player I was considering, so I'll say good pick. I just wasn't quite convinced he'll look as good at 23 as he does at 17. I'm rooting for him, though.

Does anyone know the eligibility requirements for high school draftees?

If Zachary Smith ends up half the player Suarez became, I'll be happy with this pick.

Smith does not fit my usual profile, but I'm enamored with his ability to make contact, be patient at the plate, and hit with enough power to be dangerous.

He's impressively far along in his development for a high school prospect, to the point I wouldn't be surprised if he were the first player drafted in the 2000s to make his BLB debut.
I was planning on building around Smith for a couple seasons. He took some OSA hits but at one time he had practically everything in the 7's and 8's according to my scout.

It was him or Kitchen for me at #3.
