Hmmm... we are 8-12. Interesting statistical start to the season headlined by what is probably just poor luck at this point. 1-8 in one run and extra inning games. Offense is full of slow starters like last season, problem is that when they do seem to get going in a game, the bullpen has blown it.

Not really sure what I want to do here going forward. Honea signs his extension cheaper than the going rate in FA, so that's a plus. I think I'm going to update my trade block here to like a half sell at this point. If you were looking for some pieces, just ask.

I really like the potential for a Jarrod Brown and JP Knappe corner outfield. Maybe Brown gives us a boost coming off the DL.

Twinkle Toes finally made it all the way back from his 2014 injury.

          1.57 ERA in four starts.

He tore his triceps in his last start. Sigh.

I would call up top prospect Joey Long to replace him, but he just hurt his shoulder.

          We're last in offense.

          Not good.

At least Pawtucket is a constant.

Its early though and Pitt hasn't made its run yet.

Decent start to the season for Pawtucket. See some flaws right now gonna need to address down the road, but for now with the new divisional realignment just trying to get use to this new set-up.

We're at .500, we've pulled our run differential up to even and there were some signs of life from the pitching staff. Still only a 4-3 week, but that's the best we've done yet. I'll remain optimistic that we're going to figure it out, for now.

I re-signed Razza last sim. Still have a decision to make on a couple other guys, but I'm glad to get him locked up for a reasonable deal.

So this is going to be another year of injuries? We may just start looking for new training staff, because I'm starting to tire of this theme.

The other shoe drops as we lose straight to end the week, going 2-5. We don't have to look for the reason as we were only able to hit .190 for the week, including a 1/26 performance by D.J. Gosser. Hopefully, he's gotten that out of his system.

So after our top prospect (who also happens to play outfield), Brendon Lanoie has his kneecap broken, utility outfielder Dave Southerland has his career put in jeopardy after he blows out his knee sliding into second. He'll miss the remainder of the season.

Also all the world defensive centerfielder, Walt Nichol, has a high ankle sprain that will keep him out for about a month. Our outfield has been decimated early but like they say, next man up.

On the bright side, Fred Evers won POTM honors after going through all of April without giving up a single ER and chalking up 9 saves, which is very nice to see. Also Malik (Roberson) looks like he may be fully recovered from breaking his hand last year as he blasts 3 home runs and picks up 9 RBI in the process last sim.

We go 3-4 to drop to 6-14.

Our pitching has been pretty good but it seems everyone else has been great throwing the ball.

I can't really ask for more out of our pen. The starting rotation is solid enough considering who is pitching for us. Danny Melgoza is on waivers because we want to go younger there. I still think he can be a good reliever for us if I'm forced to play him.

Speaking of young, the movement has started. This next sim will see Lawrence, Salazar, Collazo, Healey, Webb, Scott and Coffey making their BLB debuts.

We demoted a lot of guys that were never going to help us. Everyone on the above list has been exceptional in their minor league careers. Boredom was setting in for some so it was time.

We will try Tristan Carter at 1B for a couple weeks before we decide on how soon we want to promote Tom Cole to fill the 1B spot.

5-2. As always April is our slow month...but there's that pitching I've been waiting to see. Marco Valunzuela is gonna get thrown out the fucking door but everyone else seems to be settling in nicely. If you have a left handed reliever you want a mid draft pick for then holla at me

Almost 45 year old Sonny Marshburn's patience has been vindicated.

                        He signed with Carolina.

                          Washington Bats – April in Review<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
                          Record: 10-10 (.500), T-4th in Stout
                          -<o:p></o:p>
A .500 month wasn’t quite what I had in mind for this team, but it isn’t disastrous either. A mistake on my part led to chaos in the pitching staff for the first week of the season, which we seem to be settling down from now. So, with 142 games to go, there’s nothing to panic about just yet.
                          <o:p></o:p>
                          The Good
                          <o:p></o:p>
-The lineup has lived up to my expectations. I thought we would be one of the best hitting teams in the league and we rank near the top of the IL in almost every category. 1st in BA, 1st in OBP, 3rd in runs scored. We’re no worse than third in any major category outside of stolen bases. Jamie Urmson and Hidetoshi Haraguchi are leading the way for us.
                          <o:p></o:p>
-Ed Carroll is beginning to look like the ace he’s been hyped to be. Scouts still see plenty of room for development, but so far Dropkick has a 2.62 ERA, with 26 Ks and 4 BB in 24 innings.
                          <o:p></o:p>
-Jimmy Razza agreed to spend the next 4 seasons in Washington, for a total of $36 million (last season optional). Feels like a bargain.
                          <o:p></o:p>
                          The Bad
                          <o:p></o:p>
-I really screwed up by setting some pitch counts for Spring Training, and then forgetting to turn them off once the real games began. So, our pitching was a disaster in week one. I have no idea why I did this. I’d fire the manager if it wasn’t me.
                          <o:p></o:p>
-Dave Lippert has gotten off to a very slow start. We count on him to pitch like an ace, and he’s sporting a 5.94 ERA so far this season. He has yet to get out of the 6th inning, even with the pitch counts turned off. He’s been victimized by a .472 BABIP, so perhaps he’s just getting a bit unlucky so far.
                          <o:p></o:p>
-The bullpen has struggled. I don’t know how much of this was caused by them being so overworked week one, but results haven’t been good. Victor Contreras was lost for the season, leaving a hole that we probably need to fill for a quality setup guy.
                          <o:p></o:p>
-According to the game, first base is my weakest position, and Robby Castro has certainly gotten off to a slow start. His track record and ratings suggest he’ll do better, but I might be in the market for a replacement if things don’t start to turn.
                          <o:p></o:p>
                          On The Farm
                          <o:p></o:p>
-The Richmond Rams have the best record in all of baseball as they ride a 15 game winning streak into May. AA Auburn also sits in first place.
                          <o:p></o:p>
-Roger Villasenor is up to #10 on the Top Prospects list, having gotten off to a nice start in AA. Scouts see a guy who might turn into a top of the rotation starter. J.P. Lawrence, our #2 prospect, is back in the rotation in AAA and pitching well, though his future still probably lies in the bullpen. Overall, it’s been a good start to the season for all of my best prospects.
                          <o:p></o:p>
                          Looking Ahead
                          <o:p></o:p>
I went into the season thinking that this team could contend for the Stout Division title and hopefully we can still do that. Our record is a bit disappointing, but not so bad that I’m abandoning hope. Several other teams that I expect to contend are also in a similar spot. Hopefully we’ve shaken off the rust and the pitching staff has settled in. If the pitching sorts itself out, I think the lineup can carry us to contention.<o:p></o:p>
