A few Denver notes:
- Whoever signs Mike Del Rio will get a great defensive catcher with a nice bat that is also somehow improving as a player after 30. Now up to #15 in the Top 20 List.
Played a career high 149 games. Career best 4.6 WAR. 2012 Pittsburgh year was very good but one can make an argument that considering he's 31 and not 27, 2016 might be his finest season yet. Also, he threw out 42% of would-be base stealers.
It will come with a price as he's been asking for $188 MM (Maine should thank their lucky stars Ray Davila only wanted $46 MM over 4 years at the same time in his career). He was on the block all season so now you can all fight over him in free agency.
- Antonio Banuelos suffered a late injury and with that his qualification for a place in the batting race...for a second consecutive year. Last year he would have been the batting leader in the DL. This season, he would have finished fourth overall.
Banuelos did lead the DL in doubles. I guess that's where his 60 points went.
- Tied for the fewest errors in the DL (73). Second in Zone Rating (+44.2). Second in Defensive Efficiency (.708). The best D?
- Finally, Denver misses the playoffs for the millionth time in its three decade history. But it finished above season expectations with 75 wins. 9 more than OSA predicted and 3 more than Pat predicted. A +7 on the Pythagorean side.
We'll take it.
