      • Wooo, just getting caught up!

Good stuff as always come Awards voting time!!

For what it's worth, as far as my voting standards go, saves are nearly as overrated as RBI.

Yahn over Taylor. Didn't do much hand wringing over this one, as the workload made the choice obvious. Any team would be lucky to have either player though.

        • It could be worse. Look at this travesty...

          1 Joe DiMaggio NYY 202.0 8.0 60% 4.8 141 534 97 168 20 97 3 64 .315 .391 .522 .913

          2 Ted Williams BOS 201.0 3.0 60% 9.9 156 528 125 181 32 114 0 162 .343 .499 .634 1.133

1947 Ted Williams dominates every category and someone leaves him off the ballot thus gifting an MVP to an undeserving Joe DiMaggio.

Is the same thing happening this year in the BLB??

Davila, Yahn, Manning, Murillo, and Wescott are all leading the number two person in their award by multiple first place votes, yet have inexplicably been left off at least one, and in some cases two, ballots. Very bizarre indeed.

          • I don't have a vote in the awards but I did want to beat a dead horse. Just my take...

            DL Stout Slugger
            1. McPherson
            2. Davila

McPherson hit .355 with 215 hits, 40 doubles, 30 HRs, 103 RBI, 100 BB and 118 R... Not one player has hit those marks in a single BLB season. For reference, the only players to hit .350, 200 H, 30 doubles, 25 HRs, 100 RBI, 100 BB, 100 R (much lower than McPherson's totals) are infamous Hector Chavez and Mel Woodbury, two Virginia players who had their ratings edited.

            McPherson DL Ranks:
            Runs - 1st
            Hits - 1st
            Walks - 1st
            AVG - 1st
            OBP - 1st
            OPS - 1st
            OPS+ - 1st
            wOBA - 1st
            RC/27 - 1st
            TB - 1st
            WS - 1st

He was a subpar LF defensively, a position that has a lot of good hitters. Davila was an average catcher defensively, a position without a lot of good hitters. The WAR difference is huge but that shouldn't be the main criteria for picking the Stout Slugger Award when the two players play different positions. McPherson had a 45.2 win share, while Davila had 35.1 WS. McPherson also struck out less and stole 12 bases.

            ---

            DL Pale Ale
            1. Yahn
            2. Taylor

To me the innings difference was just too large to ignore.

Definitely not the only criteria. I also settled on McPherson though it wasn't easy. I just felt that offensively, McPherson was so phenomenal, he outplayed his defensive woes.

                • Orbon won IN Pittsburgh his first play-off game with a great 8 innings performance allowing only 1 run in a solo HR courtesy of Mr. Nara, while allowing just 4 singles, 1 double, 1 triple and walking 1.
Amazing control of the ball against the most talented team in the DL.

No doubts who should win the New Refreshing Award in the DL.

You stop it sir! Stop it!!

It's not the stat that's the problem, it's people's understanding of it that's the problem.

Interesting. I can't wait for certain people to just die already.

I understand it perfectly fine, I just think it's given too much credit as the 'holy grail' of what makes a baseball player in some circles.
