LF Ethan Bafford PHI 151 539 81 143 28 10 31 99 54 1 0 .265 .336 .527 .862 5.6 .365
LF Tom Churchill CAL 154 618 98 185 32 5 27 89 61 14 7 .299 .361 .498 .860 3.8 .369
This is the main reason I think WAR is overrated...
Churchill leads or is tied is basically every category, but is 1.8 WAR behind...
Defence gets WAAY too much credit with this stupid stat!!GM California Kodiaks 2014 - Present

He can't, but making that 30% of a stat is ridiculous... It overvalues D way too much!!!! I can put up for some dropped flies for that level of offence...

I don't get it. If you don't want to measure defense, then use a stat that measures only offense...?Maine Guides

I understand that, but it's the fact that people take it to be the holy grail of stats and base decisions (MVP in MLB, or same in BLB) when it skews too much in favour of D and discounts offence too much.GM California Kodiaks 2014 - Present

WAR is a very flawed statistic, I agree with you. My argument against it is that in real life it's calculated different. That annoys me. But it's a very easy measure to indicate someone's overall success.
Lucky for you, there are people in this league that don't know what that even means, and they solely look at OPS to determine their evaluation. Sometimes these people have good teams too believe it or not.
Rule number one - never allow a negative to enter a conversation, what's the point? Instead of pointing out how good Ethan Bafford is, and making the reader go look and see themselves, just pimp Churchhill. The mind wants what the eyes can see. Now they can see how good Bafford is.

Good points, but I wasn't trying to pimp him, just point out a stat that works well in math class, but is flawed when used to dokey base your decision on.
I guess as with all stats, using it as one piece of many pieces of evidence is the way to go.
Plus, with these numbers, he should have way more trade value now... Or number 1 pick in the expansion draft... Who knows?!GM California Kodiaks 2014 - Present
