    • 16 picks in and I don't think anyone has picked a high school prospect yet, right?

        I've purposely avoided them.

There looks to be a couple special ones but they are sooooo underdeveloped. I'm terrified.

I follow this philosophy as well.

There was a long stretch in the late 90's through the mid 2000's where I didn't draft many until really late in the draft. Too much ambiguity as to where they would end up.

            • We take shortstop Tom Pelloni out of Florida State with the 15th pick in this draft.

My personal #3. I'm sure he likely turns some heads and might be drafted earlier than expected but I'm looking for specific players and Pelloni fits.

I do have concerns about his work ethic but I'm finding less reason to really care with young players that have demonstrated an ability to succeed.

He's probably not a future short stop but we will try him there and see how he ends up. Even if he's another 2B in our system, the depth is comforting.

We are drafting based on talent over need.

              • My Top 15 is empty. I figured that would be enough at 17. Pick around 4pm again. Unless you have your eye on someone and a 1st and 2nd round pick want to move up.

                  • I'm finding that based on the picks, my scout's list, my list, and the commentary on the forum, there's more of a consensus this year about who's good than in recent years.

I believe the first 16 selections are the top 16 prospects on my scout's list, albeit in a different order.

Looking through the draft, I doubt we'll see any significant deviations until at least midway through the 2nd.

                      • Prospects 1-15 from my Scout's list are off the board, so it seems like we're all on the same page. Only outlier so far from my list is Pelloni, though he's not far off the pace and I had him as a guy I liked more than some of the guys ranked higher.

I think it'll start to deviate a bit more soon. If Villasenor had been taken by Denver, I probably would have gone down my scout's list a little ways for the next player I had in line.

My bad. Pelloni was not in the top 16 of my scout's list, but he was high on my list.

                          • Sorry about the wait. With the 17th pick, the Kodiaks select 1B Zack Thomas. I was a big fan of his righty lefty splits and ability to play at a reasonable level at first and the outfield.
