Sounds like a terrible time, Pat. I remember getting pulled to tryout for what they called a travelling team. I only had one friend at the tryouts, and he had a dad that wasn't as bad as you're describing but he was on that spectrum. I decided about 5 minutes in that I didn't want any part of that team. I don't remember if I finished the tryouts, but if I did I don't think I was trying very hard. I definitely didn't get on the team, and was more than happy to go back to the league that all of my friends were playing in.
My daughter had a friend over this last weekend and we were talking about softball. She's in her third year. She only joined softball because all of her friends were doing it and she wanted to play with her friends. Her first year she won the MVP and they made her move to a higher league. She won MVP again and her dad made her move to an even more competitive league. Now she doesn't know a single other kid in her league and she still likes playing, but doesn't have as much fun as when she was playing with all of her friends. It's a tough call on when to push and when to let them just be kids. My kids aren't into sports at all, so luckily I don't have to make those decisions at this point. My kids are all scouts. There isn't a competitive league for camping.

I figured it makes sense to start with the college level expansion because if we began with high school, we wouldn't have the college infrastructure in place yet for players to "graduate" to if they don't get drafted.Maine Guides

Also want to add that with BLB expansion, I was wondering if increasing the player pool might make some sense.Maine Guides

These stories remind me of Rob in Phoenix. A Living Legend in the OOTP Off Topic forum if you ask me.
Originally posted by Rob In PhoenixWell, if it were my kid getting hit, I told him he better charge the mound.
This weekend is my son's most important Little League game. If he wins tonight against the Yankees, his team (the Cubs) will advance to a best-of-five World Series against the Tigers. He's starting in rightfield, or at least he better be. There's some other little punk named Dylan (christ, Dylan???) who has started over my son in a couple games this season. This kid has blonde hair and is a little bowling ball with a goofy smile.
The coach better start my son and put him in the number 3 spot in the lineup. That's our spot in the lineup- the 3 hole. That's where Canseco used to bat in his prime. Sometimes I like it when my son is in the 5 spot too, because he's got the power and heart of Kirk Gibson. I'll be there like I am every game with team spirit and I'll be cheering my son as he leads us to the World Series. I talked to the coach this week after my son's practice and made sure that the umps for this last game would be TOP QUALITY. I told him, "I don't want to see some part-time produce-selling fool out there calling strikes that are a foot outside the plate."
He assured me that they only hire the best for these games. We'll see. He tried to tell me its not a big deal it's only a game and whoever wins deserves it and it's family fun. WRONG! Were talking the district World Series. Some people just don't understand.
Anyway, got off track. Don't let these wimps of today steer you in the wrong direction, you got to stand up for yourself.Denver Bulls

There are definitely people out there like that. I used to coach high school football. One of my duties was running the freshman team's defense. One year, which we ended undefeated, I got a five minute dressing down from a parent about who was returning punts. Returning punts on a freshman football team which went undefeated. It wasn't even his kid that would replace the kid that was returning them if I did make a switch. He just didn't like the kid that was out there, thought he called for too many fair catches. By the end of the year I was telling the kid to call for a fair catch every time to avoid running up scores. Drove the guy crazy.
