Schubert's contracts over his career has been all over the map. I watched his value plumment after a piss poor season in 2013 with Syr and scooped him off the scrap heap for 3.6ml which I knew was a complete steal. Stuck him in RF where he quickly learned and had a nice season OPS over .800 again. Z gave him only a moderate bump to 4.5 but traded to Pitt where as expected his OPS ballooned over .944!!!!
What a career recovery.Last edited by funclown; 03-17-2016, 09:24 AM.PAWTUCKET PATRIOTS

Trying to lock up Flores long-term.
I think we're going to see a lot of players putting themselves onto the open-market with outrageous demands.
He wanted 8 years at $22M/each.
I was able to get him down to 6 years (with the last being a team option) and averaging about $17M a year.
But I'm not doing that. I can't give him that cash and afford to extend Jamie and Douglas, not to mention Baisden. Reyes is going to get a healthy raise soon too.
Some hard decisions for teams with a low payroll.Brewers League Baseball

Hall, Gray, and Morales are all getting expensive too. It does add realism though planning your future salaries around guys entering the expensive phases of their careers.

I like the added realism and decisions that are needed to be made.
I think of poor Todd Robideau and his unrealistic demands last year and he had to settle for $5M. Now he's asking for $17M again, haha.Brewers League Baseball

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying bringing in outside talent is a bad move. Trading for Dave Lippert ($14M) almost single-handled won me the 2012 Brewmaster's with his post-season performance. All I'm saying is we have seen teams draft very well, avoid adding expensive outside imports, be able to re-sign their guys to big paydays and win...but it's not easy.
Even further, I'm a victim of trading for outside expensive talent too. Letting 2B Danny Romero walk was a huge mistake for the Washington Bats...I moved up in the draft to get him, thought he was arguably the best talent in that draft. But I got greedy, added expensive talent, got the ring, but then couldn't afford to bring him back after a down campaign. Look what he has done for the Dallas franchise.Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-

And yeah, it'll probably be a rinse and repeat thing for a lot of these players asking for big money, only to have to settle for a fraction.

I have some hard choices to make after this season, but I don't mind. That's half the fun.Brewers League Baseball
