                        We decided to offer Alex Gomez a $750,000 contract for one more year with $250,000 more if he plays 350 AB.

                        Checking the FA pool for OF during this off-season, nobody has his range and ability to bat combined or will be too expensive for our budget. Barber still developing and didnīt have good ABs on the BLB yet.

                        As we are pushing for a brewers right now I think is the best move for the organization, as he can be an elite substitute elite defender in the corners and will be able to drive in some runs or get on base meanwhile.
                        Miami Sharks (BLB)
                        * BLB Champions --> 2017, 2020.

                        Ohio River Sharks (OSFL)
                        * OSFL Bowl CHAMPION > 2036, 2047.

                          Turning 42 in December. Could retire. Don't give up your potential search for a backup OF.

                            Absolutely not, but a back-up OF for $750,000 is a bargain nowadays, we will check the pool and shop around anyways :)

                            Hopefully he will have one last year wonder of quality play before to hang them up, he's constantly asking for an extension... Would be silly to seek another contract and ride into the sunset with not even half of the money... Isn't it?

                              A lot can go on in the off-season. There is usually two phases of retirement. There are the players who know right now, they are done. Those are guys that file for retirement right when the season ends. However, there are numerous other players who wait until January 1st to make a decision.

                              Often players go through a development stage from October to January 1st. Older players get worse, younger players get better, etc. Diaz is potentially one of those guys that right now, is still good enough to play...however, after sitting on the couch eating ice cream trying to recover from the Sharks playoff loss for the next few months, might lead him to retire.

                              You'd be surprised of the OF talent you can find late in Free-Agency, especially a #4/platoon type like Diaz. A lot of solid contributors will lower their demands when the market dries up and you can get a good player for less than $2M in say February/March.
