    • OSA is rarely THAT far off, in my experience. 1 point often. Sometimes 2 points. Very rarely have I seen OSA miss that badly.

Agreed. After going through several scouts during my official rebuilding mode, I'm starting to trust OSA more.

OSA still severely misreads talent on both ends of the spectrum quite frequently. My guess is it is worse with players with less playing time.

While I don't disagree that it is best to match OSA when possible, we'll have to agree to disagree on when it is best to listen to OSA vs. your scout.

            • I'm not even disagreeing with you (though I would do it differently). You're good at drafting. Just commenting that it looks like you're placing a huge amount of confidence in your scout this year.

                • Went hunch pick here. Pat Conlee.

                  Stats are terrible. 1-4 7.71 -0.4 WAR.

But there's a few things that make him intriguing to me.

OSA thinks he could have 7 control. My scout thinks he could have 6 stuff potential.

He just hit a bump in development in terms of velo before the year, still strikes out more than a batter per inning and for a 17 year old being the mammoth 6'7 200 pound kid that he is, he could be a case where he just needs to figure out his frame. I'll take that chance with him and let him spend as much development time he needs.

I like your TJ Melvin pick. I think he could become a nice lefty swing type starter if that 3rd pitch creeps up to a 4 or 5. He's not flashy, but he's the type of lefty I've had a lot of success drafting and to get him in at 2.20 is pretty solid. He's one of the few pitchers I have left on the board from the start.

I think stats play a larger role than ever before. I've relied more on them as a deciding factor between OSA and my scout a lot the last 3 drafts. Almost like a tie-breaker.

Ditto. He was at the top of my remaining list.

I've drafted almost exclusively on stats and intangibles for years now. But since these are primarily high school kids (who are already not my favorites) in a slightly below average draft, WE and INT are #1 in my book. I liked some of the guys my scout recommended last year, so I've decided to trust his judgement a bit more this year.

It's just the way I'm doing business this year.

                          • I'm really sad I missed out on Tripp. He was one of the first guys I looked at when I decided to move into the 2nd round but rushed the pick a bit.

                            Good pick up there.

Completely agree. As a newbie myself drafting is quite possibly the most difficult process. Nice job by them. Paul is gonna go into talent shock next year haha!
