We went 3-4, losing the four games by a total of five runs. That sucks.

Our little FA spending spree has paid off in the short term. D'Orio, Flores, Santoyo, and Lowe have all played important parts. Throw in Castro who we traded for and we're doing okay as we beat up on Wilm, Chicago, and Philly so far this year.

You did incredibly well in free agency the last two offseasons, Matt.

We traded all our big contracts 2 years ago. Last year we signed a few guys late...this year we were a little more aggressive. Not sure how it will pan out but we've been a barely above .500 team the last 4 years and haven't made the playoffs. Hoping to get back.

3-3 Week starting slow, finishing hard... The new comers still adapting to our stadium, hopefully the pitchers will start to pitch better soon, I knew we will kick some arses out there!

A good 5-1 week for the Bats keeps us in first place. Given that I did more selling than buying, I'm very pleased with the start we've gotten off to. Next week at Philadelphia and at Baltimore will be the real test to see if we can still compete this year.

DJ Nelson continued his hot start. Really glad to see that, given how poorly he played last year. Maybe now that he's back in the lineup consistently, he'll hit again. Tony Osorio is also doing well as a starting pitcher. The game says he can start, but Pat tried last year and it didn't work- so I moved him back to the pen when I took over. We'll see how long it lasts.

In the minors, Dropkick Carroll threw a shutout in his first game in our organization. The other pitcher in that trade, Lupe Aguilar, broke his kneecap. Can't win them all, I guess.

Two guys with a direct line to my emotions have been impressive for me.

                        1. JD Robillard, my first ever draft pick has been great to start the year. 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA. He's a hard worker, a leader and entering his prime.

                        2. Ron 'Hangman' Bynum made his debut in AAA after being a first round pick for us in 2011. He went 2-0 with a 1.62 ERA and went 8.2 IP in his first start and followed up with a 8.0 IP performance and 10-1 K/BB.

Between those two and my top 5 pick, I'm excited about the future and happy that I didn't make some trades that were discussed over the years.

Danny Gonzalez has been great for us so far in place of Dunham and Serrano is looking good back as a starter.

Pawtucket 4-3. All 3 losses by one run.

We're at the top statistically in most categories and start off underachieving just a bit according to PTY. No biggie. To be honest, they seem a bit bored?
