Cuz it's 24 GMs not Carlos and a few guys.

Put it to a vote. If you get 2/3 of the vote it's all good. Pretty sure I know how the Chicago vote will run.

Me and a few guys isn't the point.

The issue is you aren't discussing the rookie league, you're discussing your own draft and trade habits.

What does you trading away your picks and youth for one player have to do with giving young players a chance to develop and maybe help teams that need development to compete?

      I'll help you. Nothing.

Carlos, I'll just say then I'll vote for a rookie league and leave it at that.

        No need to discuss further.

        • Just to put things in perspective. We are relatively early in the season.

Today I didn't get 7 exports, had 2 DFA issues, 24 minor league teams don't have enough players, and I have 18 players violating the Single A age limit...including three who are 32 years old.

A lot of owners don't need or want another level to manage.

I sort of mentioned that in my no vote, but I'm being yelled at for having an opinion lol and apparently being a poor evaluator of draft classes.

If you draft 26 players (exaggerating) in one draft might to look at your minors and see if 26 spots are available. Do you package a few picks to move up for one player? Might you move a few picks for future seasons and basically bank it?

Not everyone is immersed into this game. There are times (I'll admit not recently) people have a tough time filling up they're single A team.

Adding a rookie league doesn't get rid of making "the tough decisions."

It just kicks the can down the block a year or so. You will still have to cut players to make room every season.

Not putting it up for vote because I know this.

Just bringing it up so owners start considering the potential value.

Please read Matts post and my last statement about some A teams not being properly filled. It won't be sustainable.

That wasn't crux of your argument bro.

                      • OK Matt's post has me changing my mind. To have a functioning rookie league we need some commitment to keep the teams filled. We're not there yet

                        • As FC has already stated, without a SERIOUS statement to change my mind, I will vote no. We made a change to Single A that served as a great way to develope young kids by removing grown men from the A ball league. I've had a lot of success with younger players since. It still doesn't change the fact that the majority of player development is governed by your development budget. So in the end, opening a rookie league now (to me) looks like just another way to hoard players and talent. Albeit talent that will never reach its full potential based on development budgets already taxed by flush minor league systems...

The only way I vote yes is if there is a way to curb the hoarding. I am not afraid of a challenge but staring at a team picking in the top 5 for a decade is a little daunting to say the least. With a new league for those teams to hide young talent longer and protect them even better, just down right silly. Re-institute the Rule V draft AND the compensation picks for free agents and I would consider it.

That's unacceptable, I would start to penalize that kind of managers... Woth draft picks or Cash

                            • I'll have to disagree.

The majority of player development is based on play time in the minors. I'm with you in that Rule V should be reinstated if this were implemented.

However, if Matt says it will likely be a logistical nightmare. We have to respect that and look for alternatives.
