4.57 ERA his second year. OSA (or whatever it was called then) had him 5/5/4.

Or maybe OSA was worthless then and a young pitcher simply needed to develop until age 24 to be good.

    I don't know.
Hernandez could have been real. Lovera and Wences were good international pitchers.

Either way Hernandez is my boy.

      He's at 210 career wins now. 13th all-time.

Another 15 this year and he ought to pass Guide legend Gil O'Moore to move into eighth place.

I don't know that he can reasonably catch McEvoy's record 265 wins. But I think he can get into the top three, which would make him second all-time if you exclude Pancho.

Interestingly enough, I'd bet that those two are the two highest paid hitter and pitcher (single season salary) of all-time.

They definitely are. I actually don't think anyone is close. There's only a handful of players who've even sniffer mid 20's for a season, let alone high 20's for multiple.

Too bad they won't enter the Hall together.

Didn't Pat give some guy like $35 MM?

              Probably.

On a 2 year team option that the player never saw.

I vaguely remember $35 million of Monopoly money to someone. I don't recall the specifics.

I do remember he gave Robby Aten a deal in which the last two years were a 100% nonguaranteed total of $49 million.

                        Yadir Adili

01/25/2001 Signed a 2-year contract worth a total of $52,000,000 with the Washington Bats organization.

That second year was like $30+ MM. But Delandis is probably right. Adili didn't see that second year.

                        11/29/2001 Became a free agent.

That's it. It was $20 million guaranteed in year one, then $32 million nonguaranteed.

You previously voiced your disgust for the contract.

I don't remember Clay being the commish at this time.

I thought it was Matt/Brad that did away with these types of deals. Or did it really take that long before we put it to vote.

Actually, Clay was the commish right? I think I answered my own question.

It took a while before we pushed reform through.

Pawtucket made a huge move for him when he came out, but Spot just simply out bid us. Then he extended him to a such massive contract I never looked at him ever again.
