Excited to add former Muckdog SP Danny Gonzalez. I was always a big fan and thought he was an iconic SP for Matt's franchise. He'll bring another lefty presence to our rotation and means we can now move Pulido for the right deal. If anyone wants Pulido and Jamie Gruell, now's the time. With Anguiano now on board, I'd consider moving Hector Gutierrez as well.

We were in on Gonzalez as a hopeful under the radar signing. He didn't go for our offer in FA1, so I was pretty sure we weren't going to be the ultimate destination.

The Dunham addition hopefully lessens that need. We have no idea what to expect from Ayala when he comes back from his significant injury, but he'll hopefully bring another rotation option midseason,

I saw you looking at him, you're tricky. Once I saw no one snap him up first FA, it was easier to trade you Dunham and then try and outbid you for Gonzalez. I think he may be Dave Dunham 2.0 for us. I also think he can be converted to closer for the 3rd year TO if I wanted to get creative.

We have one of those weird trade/transaction relationships where we probably shouldn't trade with each other because we always meet in the playoffs, but the deals always work out so well for both of us it is hard not to.

Lost out on Tony Cavazos who should of been a no brainer for Pawtucket. Thats sucks. Guess we continue to look for a righty hitting specialist to spell Morales and sometimes Mason. Spectre, if you dare start him he's only going to play 30 games.

On the plus side look at the sudden prospect move of IF Jimmy Lee!!!! When I drafted him #5 didnt expect him not to be the on the list. Another strange quirk to the top prospect list. Anyway debuted at #21. Now I don't feel as stupid.

Disappointed we struck out on Wentworth as well. So far all we've managed to do in FA was sign a 4/5th OFer who can backup CF. That was a definite need, so we're happy with that signing, but still need to do something at UIF and bullpen . . . and not much $$ left to do it with. May have to head to the trade market for the bottom of the roster.

Pretty slow off season for Wilmington so far. Made a few moves. Nothing blockbuster. Trimmed the roster. Added some free agents to plug some holes. Gonna lay low till spring training. Then slowly try to claw our way out of the bottom haha!

Crazy the front page talks about 2 former Muckdogs going elsewhere. Goodbye Javy and Danny. Both drafted by and played their entire careers so far in Batavia.

Danny's 2007 season where he went 23-2 with a 1.83 ERA and won a Brewmasters was magical. All though he did go 1-4 in the post season so maybe it ran out of magic at the end.

The 'Big Stud' called it a career. From '00 to '03 was there a better player?

I actually think he meant to sign Fujii, that's why he created him. When he got all that money from Linty, it backfired on him. At the time, throwing $191 million at an international was considered nuts. I think he created both with the hopes he'd be able to sign one of them cheap(ish) knowing how good he made them and the backlash against internationals. We haven't seen an international like them ever and we got two in one season. Coincidence? I think not.

I remember telling Linty he was insane. I think that contracted topped out around $27 million in a year. It was pretty crazy. Fujii was a hell of a hitter.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is the case.

I gave Fujii a 17MM per contract thinking that would get it. I had to put my cup down when Linty dropped 20+ on him though.

I started writing something like this from my phone this morning but gave up. This is my recollection of my thoughts at the time as well.

                              I wonder about Hernandez.

He's particularly interesting because unlike Fujii, he didn't kick ass from the beginning.

4.57 ERA his second year. OSA (or whatever it was called then) had him 5/5/4.

Or maybe OSA was worthless then and a young pitcher simply needed to develop until age 24 to be good.

                              I don't know.
