Millers stepped up to the plate big time this week by going 4-2 in division games.

Lead stands at 3.0 games on Syracuse after taking 2/3 in the 'Cuse.

Playing tremendous baseball right now...had the injury bug early in the season but we're really deep because of it.

Ethan Bafford....I can't believe the numbers he's producing.

    .361/.426/.643/1.069
1st in the DL in BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, wOBA, WAR.

In April he hit .244/.322/.487 for an .809 OPS

Since 5/1 he's batting .392/.455/.672/1.127 and hit .436 in August..

And Sonny Marshburn is thanking him...since he got to Pittsburgh and slid into the leadoff spot in front of EB, he's hitting .278/.391/.426/.817 after posting a .227/.386/.359/.744 slash in Batavia.

For the first time ever, we don't rely solely on the HR ball...we can actually get on base and play the game the right way! Manson and Shook are fairly one dimensional but the lineup has a different feel than usual.

On the pitching side of things.. Jarrod Syversten is 15-6 with a 2.92 ERA and has been the workhorse of the staff sitting at 191 IP

The rubber game in Syracuse, Syversten threw a complete game 2 hit shutout, Striking out 6 and walking nobody. That was a huge performance. This season vs Syracuse he's 3-1 with a 1.65 ERA

...In my opinion, he got snubbed from an all star appearance and is the sad victim of pitching in the Yahn era, but should definitely be considered for some 2nd and 3rd place votes for the Pale Ale.

Brooks and Hightower have been really strong, and we're pleased with the production from Kayden Walker.

Need to keep rolling this week with a 4 game set in Toronto and then 3 with Dallas before we play a monster 3 game series with Pawtucket at home.

After that huge series we go on a 10 game road trip in Maine, LA and Indy...gonna have to fight for this division till the end for sure.

Also, not sure the history you guys may have with him, but, Tyler Quinn will be announcing his retirement after the season.

      Speaking of awards:

Stout slugger- if Bafford doesn't get every 1st place award it's a crime.

Quinn won the Stout slugger back in Pawtucket. At the time our stadium was even more anti lefty then is today (think HR mod for lefties was like .830)so it was very amazing.

As for Pale Ale in the DL there's a lot of competition there for 2nd and 3rd, but Pat Yahn won't be denied the award this season.

I drafted him long ago, though I think he was still only in single A when I left. I see he turned into quite the hitter, at least for a while.

As for my Bats, we went 3-3, on the road at our division rivals Baltimore and Philadelphia. I can't complain about that really, but now Philly is only 1 game back. I do wish they would go away.

It doesn't look like my file went through, as I brought up several players, including top prospect Pat Wayman. I was looking forward to seeing how he would do, but I must have done something wrong.

Troy Martin blew his first save against Philadelphia. I don't know much of his history, but his transition to closing has gone fantastically, from what I can tell.

            4-2.

-Laurent Boutin (SP) sits down 15 against the Wildcats which was pretty exciting to watch. I have to decide what I'm going to do with his 12MM team option and it is these kind of performances that keep you attached to these "maybe he'll finally get it" guys.

-Not enough in the tank to catch Washington or Philly so we'll have to work on keeping this lead over Morgantown. This is a damn good team but we are missing a reliable bullpen and that's probably going to kill us in the playoffs.

I agree with Brad in that I don't think I've ever felt so uncertain about the future of a 93-95 win team.

Looks like OOTP needed to balance out the playoff rosters in Pawtucket.

27-8 since Aug 1. We are playing great baseball. All our early season moves are working together:

*Tom Wright has been one of the best players in the IL.
*Willie Rosales has become the monster in the middle of our line-up we traded for in the offseason.
*Travis Kemp has become the protection for Rosales, Gutierrez and Garza we hoped for in the 6th spot in the order.
*Troy McCarley is the spark we needed at the top of the order and has solidified the middle IF and boosted up Dowling who has been a surprise at shortstop and in the line-up.

Our arms have excelled as well...

*Alex Torres has been good and will only get better.
*Dave Dunham has been a steal in FA.
*Sean Williams, Jimmy Morosco and Ian Strachan have all contributed to our bullpen turnaround/makeover.
*Wil Perez hasn't been the steady L we wanted, but he and Efrain Serrano are two more lefty options we can use in the pen.

I went from hating the make-up of this team to really enjoying all our new guys and their play.

OOTP will deal me a catastrophic injury that I won't survive like Pat, but until then, I'm loving this teams late run and think we could win a title with some playoff luck. Won't happen...

Still winning 60% of our games.

In any almost other year or division, that mark puts you in first place or within a couple games of it.

Not so in the 2013 Ale.

All we can do for the rest of the regular season is stay healthy and maintain home field in the Wild Card Game while trying to line up our pitchers for October.

Noticed that. You sort of knew it was gonna happen.

Losing Haraguchi at the DH spot for sure is gonna hurt, but we will rotate that spot and perhaps if we make a deep run in the playoffs he could be ready to go.

Losing 3B Edgar Castillo is another story. Against righties its not such a big deal, but against lefties he murdered the ball. Of course he's been hot the past weeks before he went down (Castillo is maddeningly streaky)

So our offense comes back to earth here. This team is still deep enough to hopefully withstand the hits. Still, got to like OOTP and its timing.

                              Still, this year is different.

I finished one game behind Pittsburgh last year with a winning percentage that was worse than what I have now.

But I'm 13.5 games back instead of one.
