Undefeated week for the Tobs against division opponents. I'm guessing the division is mine now. So I will pray to the injury gods and maybe go 6 man rotation the rest of the way.

Hey look another starting pitcher out 4 months. Worst injury season in my entire franchise history. We were actually a fun scrappy little team earlier in the year but this is a nightmare.

(59-46; Tied for 1st in Stout)

        4-0 vs. Batavia: 4-3, 4-3, 5-1, 4-0
        2-1 vs. California: 4-3, 2-3, 7-3

Best Game: Down 3-2 entering the 8th inning against California, Diego Flores would lead the bottom of the inning off with a Triple, later to be knocked in by Pat Ladd with two outs. Entering the 10th, recent call up Pat Forester hit a two-out double and was knocked in after consecutive singles by Alex Otero and DJ Nelson.

Worst Game: In the 2-3 loss against California, set-up men Israel Rodriguez got his first blown save of the season and Dusty Casserino got his first loss.

        Highlights
-Fan favorite OF Pat Ladd currently has a line of .307/.395/.520, his best since 2007. In the 7-3 W over California, Ladd went 3-3, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB for the 9th best Game Performance of the season. The 33-year-old is considered "fragile" but is currently on pace for his highest plate appearances in three seasons.

-Arguably the most "unknown" player on the Bats roster is SP Dave "Wonder Boy" Ferneyhough. The 28-year-old only has 61 career BLB innings and has spent much of the last four seasons going up and down from Triple-A as an injury replacement. The past two weeks however he has been given a shot in the rotation and thrown two solid performances including this weeks: 9 IP, 6 H, R, BB, 5 K in a 5-1 W over Batavia.

        Lowlights
-LF Manny Reyes has complained all season about his role as the #4 OF. He's the only unhappy player on the 25-man roster. Finally given a full-time starters role with CF Jamie Urmson on the shelf for three weeks, Reyes struggled. In July he OPS'd just .600 and so far in August .158. The 30-year-old has really fallen off and it appears his days in D.C. are numbered.

        The Farm
-A reunion of sorts is going on in Triple-A Richmond, where long-time legends are pitching for the Rams. SP Troy Hanback, Travis DuFour and Lorenzo Campos rank 1st, 3rd and 11th in Washington career innings pitched. All three have been tossed aside by other clubs and recently have been willing to pitch for the Bats farm system on minor league deals. It's a touching story but none are likely to pitch for the BLB club in any meaningful game.

        The Week Ahead
-The chase for the Stout begins this week. Both Death Valley has a day off and then hosts Washington in a three-game series to break up the tie for the Stout. The Bats then travel to Wilmington to face the Wildcats who have found new life with their new GM. They are 12-3 in their last 15 games. The Stout is back!

Busy times in Maine. Here's what's up.

            * Fernando Hernandez returns from injury to start Monday night's game at home against Dallas. Rogelio Morales moves back to the bullpen. Good to have the old right-hander back.

            * Ian Lippert has been waived and designated for assignment. He was a nice stop-gap for us. You can claim him on waivers and add home runs to your club. He moves to make room for our more permanent solution.

            * Shane Solum joins Maine to play first base. He batted .306 last year with Los Angeles while swatting 24 home runs and driving in 88. We signed him last month. After a week at AAA in which he scorched the baseball, it's time for him to join the big club and play first base.

            * Impressed with rookie pitcher Dave Toste's performance in the setup role. 2.45 ERA in 14 2/3 innings. 12 strikeouts, three walks, no home runs allowed.

            * Speaking of the bullpen, Tony Perez recovered enough from his injury to go down to AA-Bar Harbor to rehab. We expect him back in BLB-Maine later in August.

Sorry, the files didn't generate in time before I had to leave for work. They take a really long time to generate. That means I'll have to wait until I get home to upload or Matt may be able to update before that time. Sorry I didn't get that knocked out this morning.

Thanks, I still feel like a tool. The sql files take 15-30 minutes to generate. Today was closer to 30 and I just ran out of time.

6-0 Road trip extends our lead in the Ale to 5.5 over Maine and 9.0 over Pawtucket.

Monster two weeks coming up. Starts off with a 7 game homestead with Hartford and Pawtucket (4 vs HAR, 3 vs PAW)...followed by a road trip to hell with 3 @ Maine and 3 @ Pawtucket.

We can either step up to the dish and distance ourselves in this division or we're gonna be battling it out down to the wire. I'm hoping for option A but I'm expecting B. Maine and Pawtucket are too damn good for this to be a runaway.

                            Other news:
New pen additions Marco Perez and Hisashi Tanaka provided 3.1 innings of scoreless relief this week, hopefully they won't let up a run at all the rest of the year, that would be pretty cool....

The re-scout for August was very kind to some of my prospects but two in particular really stood out.

Jarrod Syversten who was acquired from Cali this season had his potential ratings boosted to 7/6/6 for my scout and he's listed as 7/5/6 potential by OSA. He's already 25 so the time to reach these ratings is running out but hopefully he gets maxes out his full potential.

Ted Kessler had his velocity bump again, he's now up to 98-100mph and has gone from a fly ball pitcher to a ground ball tendency. He's in the midst of his best season as a pro, he's sporting a 3.16 ERA with 108 K's and 43 BB in his age 20 season. Great improvement from his senior year in HS where he had a 6.12 ERA.

We're playing well but you guys are playing at a completely different level the last couple weeks.
