Dwayne Bartlett played four years in college from 2008-2011 and graduated last year.

He was in last year's draft! No one drafted him! He's been sitting in free agency this whole time and no one signed him!

You can offer him a minor league contract right now — seriously!

And he just went in the first round.
Thanks for pointing this out because I noticed the same oddity, though I didn't know he was an available free agent.

I thought his player history was mixed with someone else (as it does happen at times) but you confirmed what I read and didn't research.

As I said to Tom, it's okay if you're busy, but you should spend a bit of time to research the draft. One minute can help. One minute. Drafting Barlett just made all of last year a waste for Seattle. I hate to be harsh, but it's true. It was a wasted middling year.

Your scout sounds like he works for OSA.

Curious what the scouting report says as mine says Marcus has a high ceiling and should be a star (with some refinement).

He hit 15 home runs last year. Yes, in high school, but it's still 15. He hit 8 this year.

I wouldn't believe my scout if he said he had a 4 power.

Also, maybe I missed this, but did guys always come out after their freshman year? That's new right?

I mean, that's going to cause even more variance in what scouts see.

I don't necessarily agree that all scouts will see a player the same. Everyone agrees Mike Trout is one of the top 5 players in baseball (if not the best hitter in the game already).

But he still wasn't drafted till the 25th overall pick, meaning 24 picks thought they had better players than him. If everyone saw that he was going to have plus contact potential, plus power potential and plus defensive potential, he would have gone first overall.

I don't think it's much different for us.

The kid hit .241 with no power in college. I have a hard time imagining anyone's scouts like him, considering he went unsigned for an entire year.

Hell, Pat signed like 300 minor league free agents this offseason and Bartlett wasn't even good enough to make that cut!

He wasn't even considered. Which is saying something.

Maybe he went out drinking with Dwayne Bartlett.

                        Pawtucket selects 3B Erik Hudson.

Didn't look to hot his lone Freshman year at Texas AM, but looks like he can be IF & OF, kind of fast , smart and loyal and for some reason he was 7 on my scouts board?
