Wow 12 million for all 5s POT and should in all rights spend least one season in AAA? With that, he is showing up 9 right now as a prospect and even my scout says could exceed expectations.

If you let him groom a full season in the minors and not get all hung up about his "well I'm paying him" could be decent.

My "WTF Is Wrong With Him Moment" for today.

Abraham Santana is asking for 20M per.....for 8 gotdamn years? I've never seen someone ask for an 8 year extension before.

This year's negotiation should be very interesting.

And obviously just for gits and shiggles, I check Todd Taylor.

          He wants 21M/per..........for 9 years.

It may be time to blow this mess up for real.

We had plenty of $$ available this year with no one else we loved enough to spend it on and not a ton of interest in trading for any one with a big contract...

So, it's majorly frontloaded for a guy my scout says he likes (ratings suck but I still think a 5 contact is average), and ends up #9 on the prospects list as you mentioned. It's $ well spent instead of laying around or overpaying Estes.

and AAA it is for the moment.

Have they finally fixed the greed? It seems like I've got quite a few greedy MFs asking for the moon or just not willing to sign a new deal.

Lucca Memmoli begged me for a nine year extension years ago. I responded by shipping him to Pawtucket.

I managed to avoid giving him that extension by routinely paying him $20-27 million annually.

Which worked well for both. He never went after that crazy 9 year deal, but we really had to pull the old fashion huge team option on his ass in order to stay. Think it was one of the most expensive deal in our team's history.

Really prefer 3-4 year deals on all players even the top ones. Those long term deal really handcuff you down the line. I'll go 5 years with a team option sometimes.

I noticed two of my veterans won't even talk to me. They want to "test free agency" Its not a huge deal since one for sure isn't coming back and the other I wanted to see how he perform first, but never seen this before.

I can see free agency down the road with some interesting 32+ year players. Could be a good thing for the league.

It worked out well for us because Ismael Reyes outhit Memmoli that year, Tom Hau pitched brilliantly for years, and we received a couple picks. Memmoli only had a couple significantly productive years left.

Despite the result, I miss him. The trade made us a better team. We haven't had a first baseman as skilled as Lucca Memmoli since he left in 2002.

Furthermore we went through five different primary starting first basemen in the last five seasons. I miss having a star at the position.
