        Jarod Swann... this guy.

Signs for a measly 600k in 2009 with Maine. Is serviceable, gets waived, claimed by Morgantown, but isn't resigned.

I see him in FA, kinda like him and have money, and give him a giant, $1m contract for one year before his DFA hits and he gets released. Sully sees him, signs him for $600k, and Swann has a nice enough year in relief.

Now he gets $10m over two years from funclown to most likely throw some 4.50 ERA BP from the back of funclown's rotation. What a life.

I never work weekends. I worked yesterday. Got home, spent some time with the game looking over Free Agents. Made a couple offers, but decided my true research would take place this afternoon while my daughter was napping. Just checked this thread and realized last night wasn't Friday night, it was Saturday night. Crap.

He may get a spot start or 2 on the road, but we lean on our bullpen a lot so expecting him to log serious innings in the MR/ LR spot. We relied too heavily on Franco last season (100+ innings). Like the flexibility overall.

Speaking of flexibility I'm even more happy with the IF J. Huerra signing. Not the eye player, but I'll take the high batting average at the bottom of the order. Probably going to be used more in the 3B/ SS here, but again brings all types of options.

#1 farm system again. Ready for spring training.

I'm a big fan of both players.

I sent offers to Swann in each of the previous off-seasons but didn't have any budget room. He wouldn't take minor league deals. But wow, that's a lot of cash for a MR/LR. But I'm a fan.

I tried trading for Herrera while he was in New York and also tried to sign him as a Free-Agent in 2007. He's a versatile infielder and while he doesn't have eye or power, he hit .300 in each of the last two seasons in Philly. He's also an Iron Man. He's a younger, cheaper and healthier replacement for Tex Watts.

Yeah...you got the #1 farm system...for now. C Dusty McKay and 3B Ron Liverett lost prospect status due to September call ups. I'll be back!

Also just noticed Washington is dead last in WAR gained in Offseason Summary By Team.

After losing 1B Gabrielle Clareno (.8), MR Ismael Ramirez (1.0), SP Ian Fain (2.0), SP Jody Richards (3.0) and SP Travis DuFour (3.0) to Free-Agency, the Bats are at #24 with -10.2 WAR.

And seeing as how I have no budget room to sign Free-Agents, I will probably go into the year the biggest "loser" in Free-Agency. Bah humbug.

                    Two signings.

                    1. IF Roberto Crespin. One year. $750,000.

I drafted him out of high school 14th overall in 1998. I sent him to Syracuse the next year in a deal for SP Chip Snow, who was very good for us for a few years. No regrets with the trade.

It's exciting to bring him back now. He just turned 30. He has a great glove. I'm not sure how we'll use him yet but we have several infielders who are good platoon candidates. He's one such guy. Maybe he'll platoon at third with Zurita or at short with Kroll? We'll see.

                    2. SP J.J. Anastasiadis. One year. $950,000.

He's coming off a couple down seasons for Los Alamos. He's a groundball pitcher who I think could improve with our defense. He'll compete for the fifth starter spot. We have a couple other options in house and the door remains open for us to bring in another guy. Anastasiadis could also pitch out of the pen.

Reigned Set-up righty Franco on a bit more team friendly contract. Taking a bit of a pay cut, but he really likes it in Pawtucket. Honestly he's become one of my favorite bullpen arms. SS Orlando got an extension also. He's just here for defense. Both Ironmen. Seems we've got a boat load of these guys now.

27 players for 25 spots. Hmmmmm. Don't be shocked to see SP Talley take a couple of starts in AAA to start him off right. Danny Cruz 2B probably starts off in AAA with MR Dave Martinez being on the bubble.

Like last season we expect people shuttling up and down due to injuries, not performing, matchups.

I tried so hard to keep Swann, but he wanted 4 years at 4.5 per. I couldn't get him down.

Loved the way you used him. We really aren't money pressed at the moment so didn't hurt to penny up the cash.

I was tempted to try him as a starter. My scout thought he was a mid-rotation type, but he was my best and most consistent MR last year. I couldn't make the switch.

Although I've always tried to keep a borderline starter or two in the pen to keep our starters rested, this is a good strategy that worked for us as well when we Uribe came back from injury and struggled as a starter. He was a damn good reliever though.
