      I know.

It was the same thing when we traded for Coates in 2000. My pitching core are all below 30 outside of Crudge who turns 32, which I'm not sure when that became a bad thing. I guess I should blame Carlos.

I personally don't have a problem with having a pitchers over 30 outside of the fact that they demand outrageous salaries.

Honestly, I just don't want to waste Chiba's best years with a complete rebuild and I'm not a fan of the current seller's market.

Nothing wrong with over 30 players. When you have a budget like mine, you have to find a market for yourself. I don't have the luxury to add a player that sucks up a good portion of my payroll.

Guys over 30 tend to be entering free agency and ask for too much money. 30 is just the cut-off date I set. I can be lenient. Tameike is 31. Sometimes you give or take a year. McInturf is 28 and he was on the market.

And when you know that free agency date is looming, you have to make a decision. An unpopular one, but it's easy to argue against me when other teams don't have to worry about payroll or trading someone too late because of that payroll and the need to keep populating your system with capable players under contract control.

Just my reality but I'll keep finding ways to win with it no matter what some people tend to think.

You have the #1 and #12 best hitters in baseball.

As long as you keep playing them regularly, you should win some games.

Exactly. That's basically been my argument. But I get it. I get why there's confusion over trading away from my pitching which isn't as good as my hitting.

To me, having a guy with a 2 run ERA is no different than having one with a 3 run ERA. If my team scores 5+ runs, I'm confident we can win the game. Goodhart tossing a 4 run ERA vs. Tameike's 3 run ERA isn't going to set us back. Our offense is the machine here. The pitchers are just guys out there trying to keep the score close.

And that offense is why my team hasn't slowed down since trading away two from the rotation.

I hear the playoff argument. "Things change". Spare me the thought. The playoffs are a crapshoot. I got into the BM last year because of two back-to-back miracle wins against Pittsburgh in Games 6 and 7. I could just as easily be talking about this season as just another playoff run. The year that maybe Denver makes noise in the playoffs. It just looks different because this team got further than it should have last year.

I think when you get into a series against a Pittsburgh, Pawtucket, Maine, or potentially DC, WC or Philly, that 1 run could be the difference between winning and losing a game.

Alright so other than me jumping in and fixing a few things in this thread.....

5-1 week, averaged 10 runs a game (9.66 for you pricks that are sticklers for details). We welcome back All-Star 2B Liam Ingle from his little mid-season stint on the DL, in his absence Salas performed admirably, with Ingle coming back it allows us to go back to some flexibility and playing Salas all around the diamond.

Our pursuit for the all time franchise single season HR ranking took a massive bump this week, we hit 19 homers if my math is correct, bringing our total up to 167 for the year (16th most in Millers history).

All-Star 3B Zach Henne had a MONSTER week with a slash line of .481/.500/1.148/1.648 and had 6HR | 11 RBI in 27 AB's out of the 5 hole, offering protection to Dave D'Orio and Ethan Bafford. Now only 8 HR behind Angel for the league lead, on pace for 44 this year. He's been a wonderful upgrade at the hot corner for us!

Bafford is having another monster year and closing in quickly on a 30 2B, 30 HR, 30 SB season, and Brandon Gleason has been absolutely amazing in the two hole.

AJ's been really struggling since he returned from the DL but we hope that a few road starts will help him find his groove and continue his excellent season.

Monster road matchup with Pawtucket, we're going to bump Rocha back a day to give him extra rest for game 1, following him will be Yoshi and then Fudd in a game that we hope is for the sweep. 11-4 since the break, hopefully we can continue to grow as a team, win some game and put some distance between us and the Pats.

                as always....

I know. I agree. But that one run can come from anywhere.

The same can be said about those teams having to pitch against my offense.

Both Tameike and Melgoza pitched worse in the playoffs last year than they did during the season. Meanwhile the Tony Perez no one seems to want, was lights out.

Who is the real who? The playoffs don't care.

The only for sure thing is to avoid the #1 seed. Avoid that and your good.

No more "blame Carlos" jokes for me.

You'd think I said your park favors lefties or something. Sheesh.

I just never saw Crudge as a guy I could build around. I'm pretty excited about the crop of young arms I have in my system. Bringing Crudge back at 14 million just seems kind of counter productive to me. Now I'm set up with an excessive amount of money to spend, with 2-3 more controllable years with guys like Ed Thompson and McCarley. There's definitely still value in the second and third rounds, and it just takes one to hit.

Phelan, a young lefty, has some promise, and I'm hoping he responds to the my minor league system the way some other guys have. At this point I'm content going in to next season with Angelo Sanchez as my fifth starter, especially considering my flexibility. All part of the process.

Crudge is definitely a top end of the rotation type of guy, and could certainly respond well to pitching in meaningful games again. Given his financial hurdles and situation, the return will definitely help me moving forward.

                          __________________________________________________ ______________

Just a few guys that have been on my minor league radar:

Wen-zhong Ke earned a call-up to AAA, especially after going 6-2 with a 2.47 ERA, 102/20 k/bb in 83 innings. Ke threw a no-hitter (2 walks) in AA, and has gotten off to a nice start in AAA.

Alex Torres had been a promotion candidate with Ke for some time, and I couldn't justify keeping him down there any longer. Still have a few years to wait on Engstrom but I'm pretty excited about the way my pitching is setting up. I'm definite fortunate to have inherited them.

Rob Bilden, one of the better hitting prospects in the draft, got off to a slow start, but now seems to be starting to come around (9 hr/28 rbi).
