Against two of the worst offenses in the IL.

This is why I can feel good one moment, but reality tells me it's not worth the energy.

We play Windy City (6th in runs) and Carolina (3rd in runs) next. Let's see.

5-1 week, 2-1 @ Toronto, 3-0 vs. Los Angeles. Only loss being a 3-4 letdown where the manager should have gone to the pen to bring in the lefty to face TJ Dunn with two outs in the 8th. Instead, leaves starter Troy Martin in to give up the game-winning HR to the HR king! Oh well, can't win 'em all.

Looks like C/1B Diego Flores has woken up. After hitting just .190 with a .580 OPS in May, so far in June he is hitting .364 with a 1.088 OPS. His bat has been a huge boost to an already potent lineup this month.

The surprise of the week came from veteran RP Ismael Ramirez. In a 16-inning affair against Los Angeles, the 37-year-old came in to pitch the final five innings of the game. 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K. Last year he was a key piece of the bullpen as a set-up man. He is starting to decline and his stuff has dropped off drastically since then but it's nice to know he can still dial it up in the clutch.

I leave for vacation tomorrow night so the team will be on CPU control for the next 6-7 sims.

Denver is waking up. There's going to be a team squeezed out of the playoffs - PAW/MAI/PIT/DAL/DEN...

What about the Lager? Every team is - sadly - in it.

Draft goes in on Wednesday morning, so files are due slightly earlier than usual. If anything goes wrong SIM may be delayed to the evening, but I don't foresee that being likely. Fair warning though.

In other news, Philly's Andy Garcia is finally playing like the next great-hitting shortstop in this league.

Always liked him. Contemplated going with him instead of Dave Perkins in 2006. Obviously, I can't be upset with my decision seeing that Perkins has twice made All-Star games in his 2 full seasons and is a career .335 hitter. But Garcia is raking.

In other news, Philly's Andy Garcia is finally playing like the next great-hitting shortstop in this league.

Always liked him. Contemplated going with him instead of Dave Perkins in 2006. Obviously, I can't be upset with my decision seeing that Perkins has twice made All-Star games in his 2 full seasons and is a career .335 hitter. But Garcia is raking.

I thought Garcia was going #1 in that draft.

But he's pitched well and is still only 25. And Carolina's decision in Ricky Murillo is turning out well too.

This is becoming another good example of hits in the first couple picks. Though, from later picks, Tom Churchill is playing his first year and doing well for Linty. Tom Wright in Denver. Van Leer. Falls.

I was shocked to see him last until #5.

I remember I was trying to package picks to move up from 21 but it was never going to happen. Lucky for me, 2006 was a very deep draft.

1.21 - OF DJ Nelson - Would have won the 2009 IL Refreshing New Brew if he didn't have a SEI mid-year. In 157 BLB games, he is hitting .312 with an .855 OPS.

1.24 - C Wayne Nelson - He's now my starting catcher and hitting .327 with a .832 OPS.

Man, PST really is all or nothing, huh. Amazing power from that guy. Too bad he also can only hit at the Toyoshige Yamaguchi line. (He has the lowest qualifying batting average in league history at .208. Our Mendoza line!).
